MOT Fail - Emissions

People,

My 2002 172 Cup failed its MOT on the Emissions. So far i have put fuel system cleaner and new spark plugs in, cleaned the K&N filter and will have a Oil Filter change this week.

Anyway, the readings are high on CO. The exhaust gases smell funny, like petrol. The backbox baffles abit. The EML light is on. The car starts/drives normal but with a slight idle problem and sometimes have to give it some revs just to set off, and also the engine sometimes cuts out if i'm cornering the car into a parking slot.

Just wondering if anyone knew the problem or could shine some light on to it.

lambda or coolant temp sensor IMO

We did 1 of these the other week that had failed for the same reason.

That was the lambda sensor as fred said

my brother had an ax gti that would do exactly the same thing when parking etc and just cut out! he was told it was the lamba sensor would sort it completely. his would sometimes just cut out when driving aswel though!

Sounds like a new Lamba Sensor will be ordered tomorrow!
