MOT failure

  Dodgy one
I bought the car just over a month ago at a dealer where they gave me MOT insurance etc and told me nothing would need doing just pay the fee and it'l pass, If it does fail bring the sheet in with the majors and we'l replace it all FOC and do a new test cert.

[rant]Well it went in today and failed miserably :dapprove: I asked what it failed on and te mechanic said the major thing was the back brakes :S they were fairly recent i said, It had a score in it I'm like WTF a tiny one at that.

Wouldnt mind so much though if they hadnt had it all day since 8.30 this morning and at 5 i rang to see if it was ready. I also told them if its going to fail tell me and tell me what on so i can use the MOT insurance i got with the car to get the parts.

Tells me it wont cound because its classed as wear and tear, Ive read the brochure and it would have been covered but there now changing it without my permission :angry

Cnuts, f*cking hate garages.

I did all the work on my six and never had the book stamped but kept the reciepts and couldn't shift it so i thought im not going to bother on this one, Well times have changed again :rasp: Il get my spanners out in future

This was an 04 plate wich as ive said rolled off a forecourt a month and half ago and has done about 800miles

Cnuts, Cnuts [/rant]

I feel better now :)

Edit: so just to sum up its had: a New driveshaft, Two new shocks on the back, a New top mount, New front brakes, New back brakes, a Service and an MOT in a month and half

I sold classic cars at university and people used to buy £250 warranties on them. They NEVER EVER paid out. Always wear and tear or misuse quoted as a get out by the warranty company.

MoT insurance sounds the same. They are cheap to buy and therefore virtually no cover.... Proper warantees that cover everything can cost 10 x that much and need to in order to make a profit.

Gutted for you, but replace the discs, lesson learned and move on.

I agree alot of garages are like that but it depends on the garage, im a sales manager at a local vauxhall family run dealership and we cant afford to upset customers as it a small town, but we hear endless tales of useless warranties and mot cover that MAJOR GROUP garages offer then cant back up the warranty they sold and put it down to fair wear and tear.
If you only bought the car from a garage a month ago they are legally obliged to do the work for free as they not sold a vehicle that is fit for purpose and according to trading standards the car has got to be fit for purpose for a reasonable time which they classify as 3 months usually, so if i was you i would of complained to the sales manager or dealer principal and if no joy go to trading standards.
I wouldnt dare sell a car with only a month or so mot on and if i did i would make sure that i offered to do the mot for free and unless they mistreat the car we would pay for what needed doing to pass but in all fairness the car should of gone through the workshop for atleast a pdi service where all major components are checked before delivery.

I brought my car, and the place said they'd get the MOT done ready for me..
They do the MOT, fine.
I take it to a garage to get something completely unrelated sorted out, and the guy points out one MOT failure on it straight away. And the car was still as I brought it from the garage.
But its stupid, a garage will probably find someway to class most things as wear and tear, so they don't have to bother with it..

I'm going to have a pop and see if i can get something back for the disks as like said its unfit for purpose, It failed the MOT as it wasnt roadworthy so needed sorting, I could play the 'I dont want to drive a car which is unsafe' with them even though it was :hmm:, but technically i'd have been uninsured if nothing was done.

Problem is Ive got 10 months Manufacturers warranty left on the car and if i start behaving like a c**t over the disks whats to stop them being cuntish towards me?
