MPG - how fast does yours go down when idle

hello can everyone share with me how fast there mpg goes down while idle at traffic lights etc

mines seems to go .1 every 10 seconds or so if not quicker than that

i was getttin 17mpg but swapped over the o2 sensors today so still need to wait and see how it gets on with that but rite now its sitting at 29mpg but stoppin alot in traffic when it just keeps on dropping

Well it all depends. As it's an average mpg, not actual mpg, then it measures your average mpg over the distance travelled since last reset.

If you reset it, drove 2 miles up the road, then sat in traffic for ten minutes, it would drop much quicker than if you had driven 200 miles since last reset.

So your question can't really be answered.

yep i reset it just after i got it fitted, wont reset it again ever lol

but what does your mpg go down by when idle so i know for future reference is mines is going down too quickly

Read Leigh's answer again, if it is just after a reset, then it will drop quickly, if like mine you havent reset for a few thousand miles then mine can idle for ages and mine wont move at all

if you hold the trip button and start the car it will tell how much your using at idle

i just done 3 hours driving, steady at 60 - 70 cruise control its up to 37mpg
