MPG Readouts - b****cks?

  Hondata'd EP3 Type R
I've not done alot of miles in my clio since buying it 3 weeks ago (Put it this way, it came with a tank of fuel and I've still got a quarter of a tank left!), But The MPG Readout is confusing me.

It appears to be very good on fuel, But the gauge is constantly between 27.X and 28.X and doesnt update very often?

In other cars ive been in wit a trip computer, They have an inst. Consumption mode which is constantly updating, Has the clio got this?

1.2 16v Dyanmique 04 Plate btw :)

Thanks

thats what I thought though? IT seems good on fuel? I've done 260 miles with 80+ left according to the trip computer?

I get about 380-400 out of my 172. Mainly motorway miles though. You must be driving that 1.2 hard!!

I had a 1.4i peugoet which I used to get 500 miles a tank out of. It only had a 40litres tank as well.

You get instantaneous consumption on the continent for some reason though :S, probably something to do with them reading in l/100km. And you get heated seats too .

all my miles are 30mph zone traffic travelling at 9am in the morning, which suppose dont help?

Average speed is 10.6mph or something, I reset it the day i got it.

as said reset the trip and get a good average over a few days, if you haven't reset it since you have had it the car might have been sat running in an auction/ or thrashed.

Yes, we have the realtime thingie, although it only works from 30km/h on. But it is not 100% accurate.
The onboard computer shows 5L/100KM, but it's actually 5.57L/100KM. (yes it's a diesel, and gets driven well ;) )

I did a 3 hour drive up to Newcastle, reset the the computer in my cup before i set off, filled up when i got there and checked the mpg figures. The car said i was doing 41mpg, the calculator said 33. Whats the crack there then? How does the car work out how much fuel it has used?

the mpg read out i think is only planned to be within 10% accuracy iirc from what im sure i read edde putting

I've checked mine on a number of occasions over the time i've had it and it's not normally been far off my calculated figures. I would call it mildly optimistic ;)

there is a real time read out in ltr/sec on the self-diagnostic check screen. If you drive your car through all the bong bong bonging then you will get a read out of what your car is using in ltr/sec. A simple calculation will tell you what mpg you are getting at different points.

Can get 48 driving very carefully, and 11 at full throttle at speed
