We're using MSA1500's with MSA1000 controllers, with 2 shelves of 146gb disks (11 in each, IIRC but theres room for more)

We have that duplicated in 2 different server rooms, will be connected to a tape library once we decide what we want.

IBM stuff does the job for our 500TB of san attached storage anyway :p

you really need an EVA rather than an MSA to do that mate.

MSA is not really designed for snapshoting and replication really.

2 EVA 4100's, unlimited business copy license and continuous access licenses either end.

that will replicate synchronous or asynchronous and provide you with any type of snapshot you ever wanted.

thinking about it though, if you did want to do iton the cheap you could use an MSA1500 with an MSA30 shelf with 15k scsi disks and then an MSA20 with some SATA discs (for the backup to disk and snapshoting).

Then use host based replication like Doubletake (the EVA uses array based replication)

Then for the snapshoting use windows VSS or something from Symantec/backup etc.

But the EVA is the proper way to do it.

Get in touch with large resellers who will recommend a suitable system

E.g

www.b2net.co.uk
www.d2data.co.uk
and whats wrong with me? ;)

I'm a HP storage and server pre-sales consultant working for a leading HP reseller, I just recently specced up and sold a 1m+ server blade and EVA solution for EDF Energy so I am qualified to recommend something.

1 metre?

ah didn't know you were a reseller fella
