msn issues

Bit of background info...

MSN has been working crap since it last updated so i thought id uninstall and try again. I unistalled windows live messenger and deleted anything else i could find that what associated.

Now, i then tried installing an older version but every time it cant because i have a newer version installed?

I then tried installing the new one http://download.live.com/messenger but when it gets to the install process its says i already have it installed.

I cannot find anything related to msn left anywhere on the pc yet it says i still have it.

WTF can i do as im getting seriously hacked off with it.

I know it sounds silly but have you restarted?

Also have you checked it no longer appears in "Add or Remove Programs"?

Yup, restarted countless times. nothing shows in add or remove.

I just want msn ffs! its not much to ask lol

Anyone know of any decent non-MS MSNs ? Like Adium on Mac ?

Only thing I can think of is Meebo.com

im using ebuddy atm but i would like msn back.
