My 1.5dci was sold as 80hp but concerned it's only 65

  1.5dci
I rang up renault to find the price of front shocks this week and whilst on the phone asked what the engine was recorded as as i've been becoming worried since reading on here the 1.5 80 engine should have a blue i on the door, but mine dosen't. It was sold to me as a 80, but renault, and the car markings say its only the 65hp, can't locate the engine plate atm, so can anyone tell me where this should be?

Is it popular to mod a 65 to 80 as i'm worried this may have happened, I test drove a 65 when looking and either there was something very wrong with the other car, or this isn't a 65. the 65 felt physically restricted when accelerating, opposed to this one which feels like you could keep going way past 70/80mph. Not really sure what i should do, or if i should just leave it, as i'm happy with the car, just really annoyed if its 65 and i paid 80 prices, It was from a garage, and they said all the checks were done and everything was ok, and showed me the details from before the number plate had been changed and when it was changed back so that appeared normal.

Any help would be great, Thanks

Yeah thats what i found DM i hpi

appears to be a 65 but doesnt look like its been smacked so thts a + lol

its not uncommon to mistake them you can see this on autotrader weather its a mistake or to defraud is another mater

i don't think many will go to the lengths of adding intercoolers an injectors to pass it off as higher model maybe a remap which would certainly make the car quicker an hide its stock performance unless you have good knowledge of dcis its going to be hard to tell

Yours is the K9K 704 engine which uses the 5435 970 0000 K series turbo.

This is a 65 bhp unit.

Its the CB07 section of the chassis ( oval plate ) that indicates the type of vehicle

C = 3 DOOR
B = CLIO
0 = 98 - 2005 body
7 = K9K 704 65 BHP 1.5 dci engine

An 80 hp would be a CB08 ( K9K 702 ) uses a 5435 970 0002 K series turbo

You should have done your research before you paid out the cash. Sorry.
All the help in checking a cars spec is on this Forum or on the DVLA site.
A reputable dealer should take it back if it has been mis-represented, it is worth trying.

I'd be really pissed off tbh.

Great little cars all the same though. Same block basically, just get a front mount intercooler, uprated injectors, fuel pump & turbo (pump only needed with dci 100 turbo iirc) , and map then you will be pushing over 100bhp.

Can i just clear up about the whole blue i thingy - this only started when the mk2 ph2 was facelifted very late 2003. The Billabong still had the older style alloys etc, so would not get blue lettering regardless of enigine

Hey thanks, I'll mention it to the garage next time i'm home, It's a bit annoying, but odd that it didn't feel like the 65 i drove, should have looked into it a bit more, but due to the difference in power between the two I just assumed it was right.

tbh I was also a bit too quick to buy, I'd seen it a few weeks before when driving past and though it was lovely, but didn't have the finances due to lack of job, then got offered a job, but 350miles away, starting in less than a week, and my parents had just sold mine and my brothers car, So it came to mind, rang the garage found it was still there, test drove it and the 65 to compare the two, checked the price in the parkers guide and went for it, still wasn't quite quick enough, I had to borrow a car for 2 days to start work, then drive home and pick it up
Couldn't get rid of it now, love it two much, and will keep investigating the actual power, still seems odd that the other 65 was lacking so much power! Also should a 65 accidentally do 80mph without any effort, I find it hard to keep to the speed limit on motorways, one second at 70 then blink and it's creeped up!

As long as you are happy about the car, Great!

Diesel cars do seem to cruise happily at motorway speeds, it's all down to the torque, makes for relaxed cruising.

I'd absolutly love something faster, but really don't have the finances, I had to shortlist my car choices to things that would do over 50mpg to be sure i could afford to run it whilst being a student
Hopefully one day i'll be able to :) think i take after my dad... except 4x4 (coz were farmers) my dad has never owned a non sports version of a car,

...I'd never have got insurance but i wish they'd never got rid of the sri cavalier so I could have had it, i think we had it form when i was 6 till when i was 14... had to sell though the suspension was so low with a family of 5, there was sheets welded on the bottom yearly for protection against speed humps, but all i can remember about it was great, sports seats and went some, my parents always drove it sensible with us in the car be I remember being absolutely petrified when my uncle drove me somewhere in it
