my cars an import!!!!!

  Golf 1.4 TSI

just got back from camden garage in northampton and have found out my car as an import. when they sold it to me they said it was not an import. after the various problems i have had with the car alarm, serv light exhaust. now i found out there is no renault warranty, but a camden one, no paint corrosion warranty and an insurance company that want to increase my insurance. i want to take the car back and demand a new one that is uk spec. where do i stand on this situation.

Eh? Did you buy this from a Renault dealer or Renault franchised dealer?

It will have a Renault warrenty, at least 1 year anyway.

do a search on warentees mate, its been discussed loads of times and you should be able to extend to 3 years, without too many problems

bought it from camden, it was second hand from the renault garage, traded in my 1.2 dynamique which they have already sold. The sevice centre that i took the car to is also at camden but a different building the other side of the retail park. they were the ones who told me it was an import

Law states that if someone lies to you during a sale with the intention of misleading you, youre entitled to a full refund mate. If they said it wasnt an import and it is, go see a solicitor and hell sort you out. One letter and theyll sh*t there pants and problem will be resolved.

if its an EU import they still have to give you a 3 year warranty as long as you get it serviced properly(ie every 12months or 12000 miles). Same thing happened to the missus brother, he didnt realise it was an import either. But when we went down to get it serviced I asked the guy about the warranty and he said that you still get 3 years but in the last 2 not everything is covered and some of it is just subsidised and you have to pay the rest.

I think theres a lot of people on here that have imports but have managed to get warranty work done after the first year.

I brought mine from motorhouse2000 knowing it was an import but other than losing three months of my warranty cause it was first registered abroad Ive had no real problems with my loacal dealer, Touch wood.

2nd and 3rd year warranty is a dealer warranty even for UK cars. As Chad says, not everything is covered, and on some items you might be asked to make a contribution.

but on an EU import your insurance should not be any more - change your insurance company - the only time they should charge you more is if it is a "grey" import, which an EU import is NOT!

yep, I agree with Kis172, I have no problems with my import insurance or warranty (well, not any more, its a long story......!)

Still they were wrong not to tell you as it will affect the trade-in value even tho the car will be uk spec.

I mentioned to the AA that mine was an EU import. All they wanted to know was is it RHD and UK spec. I told them it had an aftermarket alarm too, they asked what category and then said it makes no difference as its the same class as the dealer fitted item. Ive not had any warranty issues either, and its been in twice already.

Id be concerned about what you paid for the car, as imports are roughly a couple of grand less on average. Ive heard of dealers selling imports on at full price before.

It also sounds to me like your insurance company is taking the P. Maybe they think its a none UK spec car?

Just contacted the insurance company again and sorted it out, no extra charge, thank god. For some reason they thought it was LHD. I said to the women that I would have realised it was an import if it was LHD and told them. Well thats Tescos for ya.

Trading standars are going to look into it for me, apparently Camden Northampton have done this before and have been fined for it or something. Just need to see what happens

Theyre Muppets.....

Its not a Blue one by any chance?? saw one out front the service area the other day. Saw a MK1 too....it had been on the ramps for at least 3 days as id been in trying to get them to sort my jacking points for a couple of days......

Mines going in Friday.....im going to get them to sight the car for any damage before they can get their hands on it and write the mileage on a post-it, so that should make them take a bit more care....fingers crossed.

Every Renault is an Import isnt it? We ahd the same problem in Ireland. The insurance companies had a box to tick if the car was an import...didnt really make much sense, did it? Now if it said grey market or something like that...

Camden Northampton are crap they had my 172 for 4 weeks for some simple work and set off an airbag forgot to valet it and repair the warranty stuff that it had gone in for then tried to charge me £3500 for the work fix airbag and put washer ball back in on headlight, they are under investigation from Renault UK as they have had so many complaints. Arthur and Andy are bloody idiots along with everyone else who works there.

Good luck Chris I would never use them again ( well cant as I sold my 172) Sanders Renault in Kettering is better

  Golf 1.4 TSI

they are still to fix it as well but there is a dispute with the warranty at the momment. they said it was gonna cost me 476 quid until i nearly knocked the bloke to the other side of the room who decided i was not going to get the car back for a second opinion.

eventually they said it would cost me 76 quid as they would cover 80%. still took ages for them to give me the keys back so i can take it somewhere else. Its just crazy, probably take it to kettering next week

rang Kettering up when i had a warrenty issue, they said bring it in and i took a mechanic out, couldnt of been more helpful. I take it this can all change though, they only seem to chase you/ ring you when you owe them money....

Camden Northampton are animals, everything about them is sh*te. On one occasion they put 100 miles on my car and admitted that they hadnt even looked at the problem, i went ape!!

Perhaps we should all go around and say hi;)

Whenever I drive past, like I did today I always give them the finger, the service manager just started there after working for Alfa so knows nothing about Clios. When I went to inspect my car after they had had it for 3 1/2 weeks I tried to open the boot(there had been nothing wrong with it) and it wouldnt open he said it was because the airbag had deployed, I pointed out that it had opened and shut perfectly until they got their hands on it.

They did my service and charged me £210
They set off an airbag and tried to charge me £3500.
Kept my car for 4 weeks
Never returned any of my 30+ phone calls
Told me it was ready to collect on five different occassions
Called me a f**king idiot.
Never turned up to valet my car when they said they would.
Ordered the wrong seat after airbag deployed.
Ordered the wrong seat belt as this was damaged when airbag went off.
Didnt offer me a hire car.
They are according to Renault UK the worst franchise in England.

Have Sanders looked at it GPRIM?

Stokesey.....seen a Silver Mk2 172 in Orchard Lotus.......you havent gone and abandoned it there and got yourself the Lotus yet????? must have a meet soon and catch up.

Well the Camden saga carries on. Collected the car late Friday...again no call to say it was ready and unable to get through to them so just went down. I was having the front jack points reformed as they have folded under and unable to jack the car up if I get a puncture. Though it was a bit strange them doing it there as they have no body shop. Eventually got them to do it under warranty after 10 weeks of wrangling!!!

Anyway....yes your car is ready...BUT....you will have to rebook it as the paint man is on his honeymoon  so why did they allow me to book my car in then :p

Not only that but all they done was to take a pair of grips to it and straighten it up....EH!!!! so its bent over ...and now its been bent back...so, im no rocket scientist but to me that has just made it weaker.....Uri Gellar couldnt have done better if hed tried!!!

Wheres the petition....Ill sign it now!!! in fact I think Ill roll it all up and stick it up their arse!!!!

It worked though...getting them to look around the car for damage before they had it and writing the milage on a post-it on the dashboard. Hehe!!
