how can i change ip? whos best to go with?

Sorry, may seem petty but it's ISP (Internet Service Provider) IP is Internet Protocol which is something totally different.

To change, first you need to read your T&C's as you may be in a fixed term contract and have to pay to leave AOL in which case you're better off waiting until it expires.

If you're with AOL you're under a minimum contract of 18 months. So if you've just upgraded to broadband/wireless/silver/gold/platinum or whatever it is, thats they're way of tieing you to a new contract. Clever f*ckers. You can buy out the contract, but it will be expensive.

You think yours is shite, be where I live. I am in a village with apparently SHITE Telephone lines.

I get about 1300KB MAX, and thats with my SNR never above 6db usually around 3 and sometimes 0.

Max download I get is 120KB sec. I have done all the little tricks and nothing works to improve it :(

Makes me sad :( Thank god for the spare PC in the garage at home on a 8MB line, praise the lord for 800kb Newsgroup downloads ;)

If the speed is sh*te throughout the day, then you arent being capped by AOL. Do a test now and post up your results from www.speedtest.net

Mine was spot on (4500mps) up until around 6-7pm, then it went to 28kb/s or so. Utter b****cks. For this reason alone I knew I was being capped, even though when I phoned them they claimed there was no cap on the line and my name wasnt on the Fair Usage list. Took at least 10 phone calls night after night before my line is now back to normal. Spot on now, even for AOL standards :)

In which case, you're line is f*cked at the moment. You may need an AOL or BT engineer out to check everything is wired up properly.

it is all fine, was getting 200+ kbs all day and night, switched to a wireless router and then the problems started. although its still wired to the pc lol.

Have you not thought that if you switched to a new Router and your problems started that it is a dodgy router.

Go back to your old router/modem and see if it gets better. If it does then take the router back and get a replacement dude

If you've changed router recently, then try plugging your old one back in then doing the speed test again.

Edit. beaten to it!

It *should* still have drivers in your system dude. PLug it in and see, obviously you will need to create a new connection to "dial" up so to speak to the Broadband connection as your router deals with authing on the ADSL network at the moment

Nigel = OWNED ;)
