My Dads MGA Coupe

Hi guys,

Thought I'd post up a few photos of my dads pride and joy.

Unfortunately I don't know all the spec to it although its a 1.6 slightly modified engine and is a left hand drive. My dad bought it as a bit of a wreck around 15 years ago when he was in Florida and spent years working on it to get it to how it is today.

He's had a couple of years of fun driving it but due to him getting on a bit he struggles to get in and out properly and has decided to let it go.

A very nice and very very rich man is flying over from Belgium tomorrow (he viewed last week and showed us his collection, he has over 100 cars in a hanger and loves classic cars) to pick it up and plans to drive it home! Very brave man if you ask me, I'd be surprised if it makes it to the docks let alone to Belgium. Apparently he does his with every car he buys and says the drive home is the most fun as he rarely makes it home in one go and gives him time to get to know the car and any problems it has.

I know this isn't the usual cliosport.net car so thought I'd post a few pics that I have as a farewell gesture to an old classic.

I hope you like it.

Very nice, used to have a B roadster and really miss it when we get 5 minutes of sunshine.

Thanks.

He's had many MGs over the years and I can remember at least 4 or 5 B's both coupe and convertible. He's had a few midgets as well and I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up buying another A roadster even though he's adamant he won't!

Thank you.

Yeah they are, in all the years he's owned it I bet I could count the others I've seen on one hand.

Strangely enough the coupes are rarer than the roasters yet the roadsters are more desirable and expensive to buy.

Very nice to look at and own but after driving it it makes you realise just how much cars have improved! I'd be less scared racing at 100 mph round country lanes in a modern car than I would be doing 60 mph in this on a dual carriageway in this! Lol

Proper little sports cars. My Dad had 3 chrome bumper Midgets and 2 chrome bumpered MGB coupes. They were such awesome things.

Wow, that's lovely!

Never seen one before, must be rare? And rare usually = ££!

Lovely, probably the best looking MG they made.

I'd have to agree there. It was meant to be the poor mans version of the Jaguar XK120 but a lot of people actually prefer the MG!

Not as expensive as you may think. An absolute original minter will set you back a fair whack but dad was asking just under £17,000 for this and there were a few cheaper to choose from. Not cheap I know but for such a rare classic it's a lot less than you may expect.

Well, rather unsurprisingly my dad has gone and bought another MGA. He's always wanted a roadster and although he half heartedly promised mum he wouldn't blow the money, that's exactly what he did lol.

He's gone for another left hooker as he injured his shoulder a while back (rotator cuff or something!) and finds it much easier driving a LHD.

He's not picked it up yet, we'll probably venture down to London to get it this weekend.

These are a few pics off the website, I hope you like it.

EDIT: Can't load the other pictures for some reason, I'll add them later.

To be honest I think it's just the shadow on the images that makes the wheels look a bit shot. From what dad says its spotless.

He's got all the photos from the work done and it's literally had everything you can think of from the chassis up including the whole engine being stripped, acid dipped (or similar) and then put back together with almost brand new looking parts.

It's almost like a new car now. I think 1500 miles covered since the rebuild and done by a classic car specialist. He seems chuffed anyway.

I think it's the rareness that makes them so cool, hopefully I'll be allowed to drive this one!

You can't beat on older MG roadster in summer.

There was an MG RV8 behind me on my way home from work, he turned right at a junction when I turned left and the sound was glorious!

Bizarre. My grandad was just telling me today about the day he bought a his brand new 'woman magnet' MGA.

Such classy looking things.

I thought I saw one today actually, casually driving around on the forklift and I noticed something out the corner of my eye, but no. It was an AC Cobra instead, still a beautiful car nonetheless.

I think the coupe is better looking personally, although bearing in mind this is a fun car to use on select occasions a year I can't blame him for having a roadster so he can let his silver hair blow around! Haha.

Oh no doubt the coupe is the better car to look at, but in weather like this its the roadster you want to be driving.

I'm actually not an MG fan, i just don't get the fuss over them - however that's one of the nicer one's i've seen. Looks quite smart :)
