My day @ Silverstone - Pics

  106 GTi
First time at the British GP for me today, only qualifing but not bad for free! Early start but and aftyer a great cross country blast, and finally finding the pre event meeting place was good to meet some fellow CS members to spend the day with.

All my days pics are here - http://www.richtreen.co.uk/events/britishgp2006/index.html

A few of my faves from the day:

Cheers Chris.

No unfortunatley - right at the top almost of the Luffeild C grandstand. Only had 280mm (70 - 200mm with 1.4 extender) reach and it was far to short, so lots of cropping needed!

That's where I fall short, 432mm but I don't have the resolution to do any serious cropping, so tempting to upgrade (again!)

Thanks for the Petrol Blue pics too, love it!

Going for a 300mm prime next after today, with the 1.4 extender will be 420mm, plus the 1.6 factor of the body - 672 mm!!!!

Dave182 borrowed and had 50-500mm Sigma today!

I did some full car shots of the petrol blue but the sun was so low the came out pants.

today was brilliant. Even with getting up at 4am! free breakfast, pit stop, windscreen cleaned and lunch got to see latest Renaultsport hardware and to top it all gold seating grand prix tickets. Saw plenty of Renaultsports too!

This is what Renault is all about, selling great cars and getting owners involved with the company. I think it makes the ownership experience more personal.

Excellent.

length was amazing although had a few issues.

the lens is way too heavy, has given me some real aching on my shoulder and arm!

Because of its size and weight, the motor for the autofocus has problems and needs to be 'helped' along sometimes, this is frustrating at it always happens at the wrong time when you need to take a quick shot.

Has a few marks on it which show up when really zooming in.

Camera body, s2 Pro, supposed to be an amazing SLR but its a bit of a pain, not easy to use, definitely not the best induction to it to have to learn in an F1 pit where speed is of the essence!!!!

Has a problem of not taking a pic even when in focus sometimes, very frustrating when you have the perfect shot and just can't take the pic as it won't let you, this happened so many times to me!!!!

Also eats batteries, so both days ran out of battery way before I wanted to finish shooting, meant i didn't get the shots i wanted.

All in all I got some pretty decent shots but nowhere near what i actually wanted, should have had the 350D with me in the pits as its much easier to use in a quick situation, very fast camera, but then i obviosuly wouldn't have got the depth of field shots i wanted so i guess you can't have it all.

So not the most successful weekend of shooting, shame really as i doubt i will ever get the chance to go in the pit garage again like i did but i got enough decent shots to be happy and to make it all worth while carrying that monster around!!!

Sorry to hear of the glitches.

I had read a few reviews on the various 'Bigmas' as they are know and most said they are better suited to wildlife than motorsport, great length but focus is to slow it's not ideal for track work.

A monopod is needed for sure on that bad boy.

Not enough bugs on that clio Rich, you can't be driving it hard enough.

Great action pics btw.

Mine was covered after driving there and back each day. Luckily for me it's pissed it down this morning and washed most of them off.:D

Chris - that was the dirtyist it had ever been. Trust me it got some right abuse across the cotswold there and back.

The McLarens did look great in the sun, first time I have seen them in the flesh with the new paint. I am fairly happy with some of the shots, need to work on the ratio of sharp to soft ones still. Alot I posted are not quite there but I posted them anyway. The shaort lens and distance away from the cars does not make it easy though.

Think this is my fave of the day, despite it not being a renault!

Lee - mines all washed and tucked back away.

Gotta agree with you liam! Such a fantastic day was had by many renault owners! Not many if any other car manufacturer owners get something like we got. Great seeing that most of us have sub 20 grand cars and where treated to such an event! Hope they do it again next year :p

Nice pics bud. :) Getting to grips with the F4L nicely :) I find they do get a bit soft towards the top end.

What settings did you run on the camera?

  106 GTi
Cheers Si.

The 1.4 Extender helped a bit in length - but looking back through them the soft ones where the ones taken at max reach when they first came into the Luffeild complex.

Track stuff - Mixture of Sports mode to gaurantee I at least got some shots, the better movement showing shots, where TV - 1/320 Seconds with AI Servo selected.

pmsl I didn't notice that! Well he'd clocked my speedo and also noticed I gave someone the finger on the M25 (they almost hit us and mouthed something at me to be fair)... However, he now wants to do his first driving day!!
