Had this car a week now, I originally ordered around 10 weeks ago but I changed the spec and colour which delayed things a little.
I had a S3 DSG Black Edition from new for two years and loved every minute of it c**til I ordered this, ha). The S3 was a great car and I was struggling to find a suitable replacement that would be worth a premium over the S3.
My original short list was -
e90 M3
F10 M5
New RS4
C63
If Id' of bought second hand then I really wanted a 997 turbo or GT3 but the mrs insisted on 4 doors and it was another step up in running costs, combined with the fact I couldn't really use a tubby or GT3 as a daily.
Quickly discounted the e90 M3 due the lack of availability of new cars, I didn't think the E90 was a substantial improvement over the e46. The engine lacks torque and I don't really rate new BMW build quality.
The F10 was amazing but at a price ticket of 80k for a well spec'd one, it was out of my reach to comfortably afford one.
RS4 looked great in the magazines but when I visited my local dealer I wasn't really over whelmed by it, the exhaust note is also very subtle.
So Ad (member) and I popped to Merc for a drive of a black saloon, was very impressed by the car and the noise it made was eye watering! Didnt really get much of a in depth test drive but it was clear that these things shifted like nothing else I've driven. We discussed a potential deal but the discount on the car was not enough compared to some of the deals I'd seen on the AMG forum. I was then put in touch with a dealer in Poole, Dorset who put together a very competitive deal with a healthy £10,000 off the list price!
The spec I choose was
C63 saloon
Iridium silver
19" optional multi spokes
Harmon Karden pro logic
DAB radio
Lighting pack
Heated washers
The standard spec is pretty much fully loaded with command online (amazing), DVD/TV, built in HDD for media, electric memory seats for drive and passenger, electric adjustable wheel, heated AMG seats (out of this world), voice control, yada yada.
Painful 10 week wait but the 2nd November (two days after my birthday, nicely timed) was collection day.
Me and my girlfriend left our house in Warrington at 5am, met Ad on the M6 near junc 11 at 6.30 then carried on in his car all the way to Poole, Dorset for around 9.45am. Greeted by the AMG sales rep who sat us down while we completed the paperwork. We then went to the other side of the dealership where my car was sitting!
We had a good look around and the sales rep demonstrated the car and set up my phones to connect and stream music.
We then started it up inside the dealership to roll it out, WOW! what a noise. They just sound phenomenal on start up when cold, especially indoors!
Few pics outside with a very excited me!
We set off home and stopped to grab a nice pub lunch! Ad then took it for a spin up to about the M5 where swapped back for the long trip home! The mrs insisted on driving back due to her getting car sick, which was fine with me! I wanted to play with the media player and get some sleep! The ride home at a steady 70-80 gave us 18-19mpg, this should improve as the engine loosens up...
A week on and I haven't stopped grinning, it has so much character and presence! I haven't come across anything on the road that has been challenging, including a very annoyed prat in a Focus RS. Any gear any rev you just need to touch the throttle and the 600NMs gives you a thud in the back and you're well on your way to jail time speeds!
For my day to day hack it has also exceeded my expectations, the ride is better than the S3, the seats are something else along with the quality of the media interface through the Harmon Karden pro logic. The gear box is great for around town, quicker than I thought it was going to be but not as fast as the DSG, as I understand it the gearbox is a merc 7 speed with a clutch apposed to a torque convertor and a AMG control unit.
Ive done around 700 miles in it so far, with an average of 16.3MPG (Most of my day to day drive is just round town or dual carriage way blasts) If you constantly sit on the throttle then single digits is easy but you should average 12-13mpg.
Today I took it to my mates who gave it a good bath for me then grabbed a few shots on an industrial estate and finally on my drive.
Few after it was done on a local industrial estate
Clocks, and the MPG from the way home
Hand built engine by my main man Jens
Few on my drive (MRS not impressed that I haven't washed her car, ha)
Back brakes bigger than my old fornts on the S3
Dat ass
Fronts
The best seats of any car I've ever sat in
HK pro logic
Driver and passenger electric memory seats
