My new GTI-6 P1

f**king love this car! And imho those wheels are far nicer than the cyclones. Can't help but think the plastic strip on the rear bumper needs some attention though, looks quite patchy.

And as for the lights, I like them :)

You should see the bumper plastics and paint IRL - they're scratched and stone chipped to f**k! Ideally I'd like to respray the bonnet, rear bumper and just get a brand new front bumper... but I'm not really sure it's worth it. Having seen some of the work that's been done on this car, I'd be surprised if the shell isn't rotting tbh - there was a piece of sponge separating the air filter from the body, for example :S weird.

It's good for another couple of years and some track abuse though

Do us a PM, you're more than welcome!
Need to do a shoot when I eventually afford to get mine through to Manc permanently - F**king losing NCB for having your car stolen is sh**te! lol

Sucks big time that. And definitely, need to arrange a shoot with a few of us.

Plus Paul is only winning mine and his detailing competition because he has nice pics lol!

Looked more purposeful on the gti-6 wheels than now, however I think the 1.9 wheels certainly give it a twist of old skool to go with the boxy shape of the front end on the p1 306's. I quite like it :)

  Dodgy one
Sounds like your having a bit of beef with your cyclones fyi, Early cyclones take tapered bolts and the later ones fitted to PBS and p3s use the flat faced bolts

The ones that were on it had flat faces - they weren't the original cyclones that came with the car, it was on MO5's for a while and then another set of cyclones were put on it - so my guess is they are the later ones. Either way, there was a mish mash of bolts holding them on!

Thanks for the comments!
Daniel, you are definitely wrong ;)

If you want me to lop the exhaust off over my pit give me a shout,

I've got a spare Magnex backbox and some 2.5" stainless that I'm wanting to use as a tip - so Ideally need the backbox chopping off, yeah!
I'll let you know when I'm next in Yorkshire :)

looks well fella. dark indicators arnt to my taste nor the 205 wheels but each to there own. i had a 106 gti which i bought with 205 wheels and took them off the same day. heavy old buggers they are.

Yeah, I've got the Speedline version and they're exactly the same weight as Cyclones IIRC. I think they go better with it being an older car, but each to their own!
I'm also not sure on the lights, but I think they look a bit more aggressive.

Been offered some 106 S1 Rallye Fog light grilles for £75. For me, that seems very expensive to me, but they're so damn hard to find! Anyone know how much they're actually worth and if I'm likely to find a pair cheaper than that?

I think those 205 wheels set it off a treat and I'm usually not a fan of them on anything other than a 205! As someone else said, suits the square front end.

I've always seen 205 wheels sprayed black with a stupidly coloured stripe on the rim, so have never really liked them until I saw a red 306 Rallye on silver ones - it looked brilliant!

TBH it's only the same as putting a set of Williams wheels on a MK2 Clio!

Love this Joey, looks immense.

I also far prefer it on the 205 wheels, much nicer than the cyclones. Not sure on the indicators mind

Thanks! :)

I'm not so sure either, but there's so little visual difference between the sport model headlights and boggo headlights I wanted them to look at least a Bit different... Can always revert back to standard - new indicators are only £10 brand new! lol

Not updated this in a while! A lot has changed for me recently, I've just sacked off uni as it was not for me in the slightest. After a couple of weeks of searching (felt like months!), I've got myself a job and can now continue with this.

Ordered a lot of parts, should be getting on with sorting everything out next week - possibly even have it back on the road... Fingers crossed!
But I need some advice. Having seen some bumper chops on MX5's and Clio's, it's given me the idea to chop out the middle section of my rear bumper. I think I like it, but I've been looking at the photo's for so long I can't decide now...

So, unchopped:

On an un-car related matter, congrats on finding yourself a job and realising that Uni wasn't for you. I know too many people creating more debt at uni who have started a new course 3 times over the last 3 years. It's pointless.

Ah, cheers mate!
It is! The course I was on was garbage. I'd done Manufacturing Engineering at college for two years prior to going to uni, and it just felt like I'd taken a massive step backwards. At uni it was 100% classroom based work, no practical - which perhaps I should have realised before going, but it was so f**king dull! Should have gone for an apprenticeship, like I was going to do in the first place...
If I can't get on an apprenticeship now, I'll have to go back to college and do a night course - so uni has sort of ballsed things up really!
Ah well. Moving to Manchester was a massive plus point of going to uni. Think I'll be staying here now tbh, I love it!

Glad this is back on track.

Unchopped 10000%, chopped looks pony on that for some reason.

As Welsh has said, well done on finding a job, you found something that could be a career or just something to bring money in?

Just something to bring in money at the moment - WHSmith at Manchester Airport... not exactly brilliant, but it'll be easier for me to get a job on the side in the future with that on my CV I guess. I'll either start an apprenticeship in September or do a night time college course, just depends what opportunities arise really. I'm trying to get into the motor industry, and ideally higher level motorsport eventually - Uni is a possible path, but it's just not for me, so I'll be doing it the hard way and working my way up!

The chop makes it look raised up at the back, glad you've decided to keep it the way it is!

Glad to hear you've got a job sorted too mate!

Cheers mate :)

Yeah, perhaps it if was a bit lower it'd look slightly more in place - but I'm not fannying around with the rear beam, especially when it's already at a decent height tbh!

Small package arrived this morning; not going to be to everyones taste, but the bonnet catch on at the moment is such a pain in the arse, and is very difficult to operate. So they're going on for ease of use more than anything. I could have sourced a second hand OEM catch, but it's too much faffing around for something that will eventually just break again anyway. Also, if I can ever afford to fit ITB's (which won't be for quite a while) I can remove the slam panel nice and easily.

Those bolts are for my Cobra seat, not the catches BTW! The subframe and sidemounts are on their way for that. Annoyingly, I couldn't get hold of a custom low frame, so will make do with an OMP one for now. I also can't weld/have no welding equipment so weld-in bars aren't really an option at the moment.

They will until they realise how horrendously underpowered it is at the moment ;)

Need to check the cam timing. That's another thing... The to-do list is getting rather large :(

Slight update. Not got a lot done today, and I've found a worrying oil leak coming from between the engine and gearbox :S
Also becoming more convinced it's a Tapper... Sounded like a MK3 fiesta for a good ten minutes whilst it warmed up, it'd also explain being slightly down on power. Hmmmm, shall take it to a specialist/BTM/someone who knows what they're doing as I don't have the time or space to find faults or fix anything now.

Oh well.
Good news is that it's now insured.
And I have made two small changes today... (Fog grilles obviously not staying white!)

Looking very sorry for itself! (Did the headlamps Properly BTW)

I'll do a proper write up when I get more done.

Headlamps are playing up now, I suspect it's the wiring as putting full beams on makes all the passenger side lights go out. I wouldn't mind, but everything is so fiddly to take apart. Especially compared to a Clio! Seems to be about 100 hidden bolts to get the front bumper off FFS!

I think it looked best on the cyclones. The 205 wheels are what every man and his dog has on and the comp mos look tiny.

How long has it been stood for without being run?

Should look at getting the cambelt done soon though? At 90k a previous owner said they had it done 10k before so your coming up to the interval now. Might be a sign its stretching.

Im still waiting for a free minute to put my head on :(

Ermm, it had been left since sometime last week apparently. Which isn't exactly that long! Not sure how long oil has been dripping out though... Really want that sorted tbh! If the gearbox comes off, it's a good excuse for a nice light flywheel and a new clutch though ;)

Yeah, it's definitely due. It'll be getting done ASAP, just need it to survive a trip to Manchester!
