my trip to renault leamington

i went to renault in leamington this morning for a new hazard light switch, i got the one from a laguna as it is £10 cheaper and then changed the caps.

whilst i was there i saw a red 197 and asked one of the sales guys to tell be a bit abit about it, he was quite happy to tell me about service history and the owners but when i asked about the car he was clueless, he just looked at it and said what he saw.

me: so what makes this car different to the standard clio
sales guy(sg): errrm it has got 17 inch alloys
he started walking around the car
sg: it has fog lights
sg: errrm it has recaro seats (which it said on them)
then he went on to ask me whether i had had a quote on this car as it would be expensive.

he failed to mention that it had a f1 style rear diffuser and vents to reduce the air pressure in the front wheel arches, and mostly he forgot to mention the engine.

so my view of renault is that they can probably talk for hours about the normal cars but when it comes to there interesting cars they dont have a clue.

So he's supposed to know the exact spec and differences of every single Clio/Megane/Twingo and whatever else Renault sell?

well i thought he may know abit about the car, cos i thought as he was a sales man he would be able to tell features of a renault sport cars even just the basics but he seemed to know nothing, compared to when i have been to a volvo garage they seem to know lots abot every car they sell and can reel off loads of information about them just suprised how little he knew about the car really

Not every Renault dealer is a specialist Renaultsport dealer, I think there are only about 14 in the UK. Having said that I would expect the normal Renault salesman to know the major differences between the RS cars and the normal cooking models. Car salesman these days are not petrolheads, either they are interested more in smart suits and sales figures for "Flavour of the month"

I's hope so! It's not a huge range to be fair, I'd expect my staff to know my products!

You'd have been better of asking us in the workshop mate, 3 of us have renaultsports!

If it was the guy with glasses he's awful! And the 197 is extremely over priced!!

yeah probably i saw a 182 round the back, and the car did seem expensive.

think it may have been the guy with the glasses but i ran away before he got chance to put my name down for a 182 so didn't catch his name

My experience exactly!

80% of the salesman I've met aren't the slightest interested in cars.

I was told they don't make a Renaultsport Twingo by a Renault salesman.

I then pointed to ours in the car park. F*cking mongs, 90% of them.

I imagine to many car salesmen, their job is just a job, and the car they're selling is just subject matter with an important price tag & commission.

(No offence to anyone on here who's a car salesman by the way, chances are if you own a RenaultSport and are on CS you probably know a bit more than the average!)

If your going to try and sell someone a car then yes, you should know more than most about it, otherwise what use is the salesman?!
