My Williams 3 months on.

  R14 CUP
I've had my Williams for just about 3 months now and thought i'd write my opinions on it so far.

I was a little bit unsure what i was getting myself in for, i had heard lots of stories about them being a nightmare, but touchwood, its been a dream so far.

I've had no niggly problem, that after a bit of detective work as a small wiring fault in a very common place (down by the chassis leg),

The car is amazing, and it perfectly capable as a daily driver, if you can handle a stiff clutch anyway, im used to it now though. Its been brilliant in the snow, probably the best car i've had in the snow too.

On a day with good conditions, the car comes alive, its such an amazing drivers car, it makes the Cup i had feel very mundane and bland to drive in comparison. The throttle response is instant due to cable operated throttle, you can feel exactly what each wheel is doing and where they are pointing and the suspension is perfectly balanced.

I still have a few bits and pieces i want to do it, but i'll getting them all sorted out come spring, i want the wheels refurbishing and i want to get a different exhaust on there, the scorpion is ok but it knocks way to much on the rear axle, even after adjustment. I will be giving it a proper good tidy up over summer and get it looking near to a standard i'd be happy with.

If anyone is even slightly thinking about buying one, don't hold back. For there obvious draw backs, they are 100% worth it.

I was driving mine all through the snowy weeks and it was faultless.

Most comfiest seats in the world ever. Williams seats > My leather sofa.

They are the best seats in any car in the world. It is physically impossible to fine a more comfy and supportive seat. I only speak fact.

miss my williams, and was also 100% reliable with lots of daily thrashing ( apart from the gearbox  ) buy a good one and you will love it, also loving my 172 cup mind :) feel very similar, but i dont have to worry about f**king rust! lol

Great to hear you are enjoying it, but offt at driving it in the snow and salt it will have rusted away by the summer ;)

Williams seats are on another level to any other car seat. Everyone who gets in sinks into them and makes a satisfied noise as they do.

The rear arches are no worse than they was before the snow and they weren't bad before it either, i did my very best to keep them as clean as possible inside and out.

I know it's not a Williams and that it's not the place, but i can't help but post a picture of mine that i had a few years ago. I wish i still had it to be honest.

Wilwood 4 pots. That car was my life, bought it as a shed did everything you see. 5 hour drive for leathers etc.

Yeah i will be doing, i've been reading up on it. The pedal isn't that hard, im really used it to now anyway and the clutch has only been in for about 6000 miles, so its got plenty of life left in it!

Yeah, they are more snappy than hard, think its just the way the pressure plate is... was the same on the valver I had

Softpedal bits are under £30 from Volvo, simple stuff really!

Aww don't show me this, whenever I get them out of my head someone puts them back in!

I forgot to mention the seats, they are amazing. Tons better than the trendlines i had in the cup! Perfect
Trendlines are shockingly bad, stock 172/182 seats are better

Best seats EVER! Got a customer who sat in mine that wants to put some in his mk2

^^^^ Often wondered if you could get willy/valver seats to look good in a mk2 - retrimmed of course...

Oh and changing the clutch, cable and pedal assembly for new items TRANSFORMS the pedal - you don't need this soft pedal nonsense!

Genuine bits only though or it'll end up the same!

Was only jesting about the snow these rust no matter what you do.

As for the clutch, you will end up with one butt cheek bigger than the other :)

If there was one car i regret getting rid of it was my 2.0 valver.

I had the leathers and agree they were comfy bastuards.

I'd love one, one day.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it bud.

Really glad to hear you're getting on well with it. Sounds similar to the experience I've had with my 106 GTI that I bought in November, heard they were quite high maintenance but it's been faultless over winter.

My Mum wants an old hot hatch to drive over winter next year, as you've said it's so good in the snow I might have to try and steer her in this direction :D

I can second, third and fourth all those superb mentions about driving and owning a Williams. I was the lucky proud owner of a Williams 3 for 2 years and loved every minute of owning that car. Lost all pics of my Williams when old PC packed in :(. Its the car I wish i could stick in a garage under cover and bring out for a thrash on a nice summers day on some mega B road ! I'd have kept it forever if I could have.

Great little car for sure. Future collectable I reckon.

My car handled the snow much better than most other cars, judging from the 7 hour traffic jam I was in and seeing the hard time others were having to move. I think as they are so light it makes it easier. I saw bigger cars sliding uncontrollably. I think my limited slip diff helped this year.

Its great to drive a car like this after being in more modern cars, which seem to try and cocoon you in so much now.

my mk1 pissed on everything else in the snow too, when it really shouldn't have. Too low, too stiff and with grippy summer tyres on. Just better.

Same with mine, and you know how low/solid mine is set up to be. Was on hit tyres too. Next year I will have some specialist snow ones on my spare set of Willy alloys, or I may just leave the R1R's on ;)
