Mysterious creak

At the risk of sounding a complete idiot I have to ask a question- should the top mounts turn as the steering lock does? The reason I ask is I'm trying to trace a creaking noise from the front of my 182 on full lock and the garage have replaced the ball joints but that hasn't cured the problem.

Have you read about the top mount knocking issue yet? They make a racket and it involves either grinding or fitting a washer to sort it.
