N80 firmware update

Come on! Cheers for this.

My N80, while I love it and stroke it regularly, is getting slow. I wanted to stamp on my old 6600 when it got slow and swore I'd never touch Nokia again and went Samsung and SE before the N80.

Hope this sorts out my ridiculous-first-word-suggested in my predictive text dictionary. Like witi for with and it'r for it's and iq for is.

i love this phone but also hate it sooo much

I have got TomTom6 on mine, recently it just stopped working so i have uninstalled it and removed it... come to reinstall and it now says "Unable to Install"

So i have backed up the phone and reset it so it will allow apps to be reinstalled.

Only to find that the 1gb memory card which always randomly disappears when accessed has got corrupted... losing my images, videos (Ones from the Kooks most recent gig), music & applications. So i have had to reformat my memory card again.

Annoying, and now i cant even update to the latest firmware as it says its not available :S

My memory card problems disappeared after updating the firmware. My n80 is a orange supplied one, so I went the dodgy route and flashed it to generic firmware myself. I'm guessing that the nokia updater only works for generic n80's and not network ones as they don't seem to have approved that firmware.

No problem! It's good isn't it! :)

No update available - mines on orange, what a waste of time !

Orange have withdrawn the N80, so the only way of getting updates is to get generic firmware onto it "the other way". (or try a service center and see if they'll do it for you, results seem to vary with this...)

What is this 'other way' to install 'generic firmware'

Wish I'd re read this thread before faffing on backing everything up. I'm on Orange and it said no updates available.

snoop you are a legend! sms accellerator is genius!

no new firmware though for my orange n80 :( dont want to re-flash myself, might see if orange will do it in a shop

My local Nokia Service Centre said they would for £10 at my own risk:

BUT it invalidates Nokia warrenty and OrangeCare for me.

Orange won't because there is no V4 orange firmware to flash on. Nokia might, reports vary as to whether they'll do it and whether they'll charge you for the privilege of putting the generic firmware on.

A book place to find information on how you do it yourself is on www.allaboutsymbian.com

Well i decided im not waiting any longer for Orange or Nokia to pull their finger out (as it will never happen me thinks) so took the plunge and flashed mine with the generic and luckily it worked fine.

Now on ...

v. 4.0623.0.41
26-07-2006
RM-92

:D

Could you possibly post a link to the instructions you used to do this please?

I don't want to follow potentially the wrong one and mess my phone up.

Cheers.

Search for diego and phoenix on here for more info. There is a risk with flashing any device so be careful if you decide to go ahead as it could end up 'dead'.

Also search on google for n80 update / n80 firmware update. I got 3 different sets of instructions and compared them against each other before i went ahead aswell.

do you have to pay for the tomtom6

or can you get it free

peeps, guessing the you need a nokia application version of tomtom 6 as apposed to a pda version where you can just install it?

Mine is tomtom navigator 6, there is no mobile edition now just navigator!

And mine was FREE, just have to look in the right places ;)

Not sure about the above, if you want a working version PM me and ill provide the instructions.... it has to be for Symbian V9.1 and not Windows Mobile 5 (which is what PDA's use) even tho the name of the actuall software is the same.

Also them links will no doubt be removed soon.
