Need help fitting new brake disks

  Audi S3 225

Hi, I bought some new brake disks and new pads from eurocarparts.com, they are both made by Bendix so I think they are what was originally on the car.

Has any one fitted brake disks themselves who can give me some tips when I come to fit mine. I’ve got the Haynes manual and it doesn’t look to hard but don’t wanna f**k it up and not be able to drive my car for ages.

I’ve taken the calipers off and replaced the pads before but never taken the disks off.

Thanks in advance

Allan

Discs are the same, remove the calipers and pads then it should be 2 Torx screws or something similar! Nothing heavy duty thou as the wheel nuts hold the discs in place.

Just changed the disks and pads a couple of hours ago. Was on a mk1 tho. Fairly straight forward. Make sure u got a good socket set, few torx bits and axel stands/jacks.

not sure aout the mk2, but on mk1, disks held with 2 torx. caliper with 2 18mm bolts.

Take the caliper off the hub with the 2 bolts.

Take the disc off the hub by undoing the 2 torx bits, but make sure its the correct size (cant remember) or itll strip EASILY. Some plus gas the night before will help.

Take the disc off, replace, push the caliper piston back, put the caliper back on and your done.

Pump the brake to get the pads abck onto the new disc.

Oh, and give the discs a clean with a solvent to remove the anti rust protection.

Ok thx, i dont think my torx set is good enough to get the bolts off as its only a small set for undoing small screws like the ones inside the clio.

Ill have to pop down halfords 2moro. Whats the best solvent to use to remove the protection?

Also ive asked before but none seems to know wot it is, when i have the wheel off and i try to turn the disk with my hand its really stiff, the passenger side is fine. Why would it do this im assuming because of this, thats why i get the holwing noise like the calipers are constantly on/rubbing.

quikfit had no idea either.

thx

Your torx sex should be fine, its not that big a bit.

30 or something.

best solvent....anything...you could just wash it normall if you want.

HELLLLPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!! The screws are rusted up to the max, no chance of getting them off man, they so tight it broke my screwdriver. Any tips to get these off dont wanna go to a garage.

Thx

They ALWAYS break...you have to drill them out and forget about replacing the screws, they are just for locating, nothing structural.

The screws always break?

Are you saying that i can drill out the screws and when replacing the disk I dont need to use any, does it just clip on and sit nicely without being connected then?

(sorry i just read smokeys post where he says the disks are help on by the wheel bolts)

Are you sure? how do I go about drilling the screws out then, ive got loads of tools and sh*t in the garage so ill give it a go.

But if I f**k it up, im gonna cry!

yes, just drill them out.

They always thread the torx drive, everybody drills them out and doesnt replace them, use the wheel bolts to line up the discs when you put the wheel back on.

No worries dood, seriously, nowt ot go wrong.

ive f**ked my car up. I manages to drill the heads of the screws the ones holding the disks on, but ive still got the back part of the calipere on, I tried to get the two bolts of that hold it on and they wont budge and now my spanner doesnt even grip them no more, the edges of the bolts are smooth but i think my spanner is knackered! any help plz, looks like i aint going to work next week!

Its defo an 18mm nut. Did it this morning. You can get a socket on the bottom one but the top one needs a ring spanner due to the lack of space. Once thats undone I needed to smack the discs off with a big hammer! The best tool in the garage!

18m socket. if its tight dont use a multispline socket as youll round the bolt off. the torx screws might be 30 torx but the most commen size is 40 torx. if their tight try an impact screwdriver first and if that fails just drill the heads off.

jay172 ya the trox screws where 30 but i couldnt get them off as they were so tight that they broke my screwdriver, so I managed to drill the heads off.

Im gonna have a go at getting the nuts off at the back of the caliper 2moro, probably wont work out and ill be posting here again for help, oh well!

agree 18mm for caliper frame.

use 6 sided type not multi like jay says.. turn steering to one side to aid access.

they are 40 type torx... and most round off or snap tool... so drill indeed.

an impact driver normally shifts those torx screws. best £10 i spent that was. use a snap on gold torx socket as well as their strong as f**k.

I did try a impact driver on the torx screws but they were so tough and would not budge. Drilling the heads of was the easiest way.
