Need help fixing an issue i have with my mk4 trophy edc

  Clio 220 trophy
Ok this might sound like a stupid question, but is there a way to lower my brake pedal? Theres like 3 inches of difference between that and the accelorator, the brake is so high i have to actually lift my foot off the floor to brake. Driving for more than half an hour gives me some pretty bad leg pain. Ive never known a car be so uncomfortable to drive, it would be perfect if the pedal was lower. Anyways any help would be massively apreciated, thanks

  Clio 220 trophy
Had the car had a Master brake cylinder change?
Or any other brake related work done?
Not that i know of, theres no paperwork or anything to suggest it, it seems as though the brake pedal was designed to be that high but its honestly a nightmare to live with

I have to take the car into renault soon as the launch control has never worked, and the green rs light on the dash doesnt come on either when i put it in sport or race mode anymore, so im going to ask them to check the pedal is where its supposed to be, but id like to know the answer myself before i take it in just so i know if there lying to me or not.

The brake pedal has to be raised higher than the accelerator

Because if you just blindly jab the floor with your trotters its safer to hit the brake first rather than the accelerator. It's just a standard thing mate and I'm sure it's an MOT fail if it's not a certain margin higher than the accelerator. Dont quote me on that but I'm sure its he case?

My brake sits higher than my accelerator too, I don’t find it an issue though?

The other issue could be brake related.... does your cruise control work?

mine is the same, never noticed it in 13k miles until I read this and checked, feels normal and natural to me too? is your RS drive button working as if LC isn't working and its not showing the green button that would make me think its not actually changing driver modes?

does it say RACE or SPORT on the dials when your changing driver modes? is it actually letting you hit the rev limiter if your in race?

As above my pedal is also higher but no more so than any other car I've drove, just measured the difference on my facelift trophy for you, hope it helps (bottom number is CM)

The sport button one is an odd one, you can pop the button out to see if is plugged in.

Go to a garage with a mk4 Clio and have a sit in
Ive owned a 182, 197 and now this 220, and this pedal is wayy higher than any other car ive driven, still havent had chance to take it to the garage yet to get it checked, if i remember i will take a photo of it after work tomorrow and try and post it on here if the site will allow me too without being a member

Yeah it makes sense lol i was aware that brake pedals are higher anyway than the accelerator but this hurts like hell to drive for long periods, my knee takes a beating because of the way i have to turn my foot to get on the brake, and my shin starts to cramp, not good

I actually havent tried the cruise control yet, how can it be affected by a brake issue? Ive never heard of that before

Yeah the button works, the engine note changes, the popping starts on gear change and the screen shows both sport and race mode, alse in race i get the esc off warning too, but the green rs light stays off. Its since i changed the throttle map in sport mode to extreme, i prefer it but could that be why the light has stopped coming on? Since i picked the car up everything but the launch control has been fine until now, but launch control has never worked. It comes up with the launch control engaged warning, but pressing the accelerator does nothing, it wont rev until LC goes off then revs work fine? The mechanics took a look at the local arnold clarke garage when it went in for a service but they had to youtube how to work LC in the first place ? it doesnt inspire confidence for them to do ANYTHING on my car from now on if they know so little about them.

Thanks for taking the time to take the photo mate, appreciate it, but tbh i cant tell from the angle what number on the tape is level with the top of the pedal, it looks around 70mm difference from the accelerator to the top of the brake, ill compare it to mine tomorrow. If it is the same as mine im amazed anyone can find that its comfortable, the distance i have to move my foot to me seems rediculous lol im a welder by trade and after a 5 hour drive a few weeks ago the damn thing almost got cut off and welded back on in the 'correct' place lol

A brake pedal switch can stop the cruise control from working, but as you’ve said it raises the revs when you press the RS button and switch it into sport mode it sounds more like a software glitch...

Yeah it's about 7cm I'd say - hard to get a photo from that angle :)

If you wanted to adjust it - it would probably be easier to move the accelerator being electronic, spacer behind the pedal perhaps.

Yeah probably, as the radio decides to switch from dab to usb all on its own too, i got a letter saying i need to update the software as it might cause issues without the update but i just assumed it was mainly for the sat nav part of the system. Ill update it and see if anything changes, thanks ?

Ive just been and checked the distance on mine, got the same as you, around 65mm ish. So it seems to be in the right place, but to me its still mega high, i mean to have to move the ball of your foot 65mm up onto the brake is just in my mind outrageous lol its so uncomfortable. Its as though i cant set my seat to give me the right distance away from both pedals, im either perfect for the accelerator but then im too close to the brake, or im perfect for the brake and can only touch the acc with my toes at full throttle.. might seem like im making a big deal over nothing but its genuinly driving me mad. Maybe my seat hieght is wrong? God knows..

So, how would i adjust the throttle on this car? And thanks for the help

It would be a first to my knowledge re-positioning the pedal, but it should be possible to unbolt the pedal from the car, place a spacer behind it and use some longer bolts. Not a difficult mod assuming the plug into the pedal is long enough.

Thats a good idea, it may work, and if not ill get the renault machanics to fix it somehow, it matters this much to me lol thanks man, appreciate the help

this might sound silly but you are pressing the brake pedal when trying to use launch control? just when you said when you press the accelerator and it does nothing.

no idea about the driver modes in the throttle map menu as I don't have RS monitor yet, trying to enable it, would help if I could speak French :D

How often do you drive at full throttle for prolonged periods of time?

Does your heel stay in the same place and your foot pivots between the pedals?

Lol yeah left foot on the brake, then i hit the throttle, nothing happens, doesnt even rev, i figured its supposed to red line then you let off the brake and it launches, right? First time ive tried to use lc too so i wasnt sure i was doing it right. Then the mechanics couldnt get it to work either so i figure it must be a fault

I have a heavy right foot ? but yeah heel stays in place and i pivot between pedals, but to be comfortable on the brake means when i use the throttle my toes end up at the bottom of the pedal due to there being such a hight difference. If i place my foot so its comfortable on the throttle, it hurts my knee from the movement up onto the brake as i have to lift my toes so high lol its hard to explain and sounds idiotic when i read what ive wrote, but it just feels all wrong and actually becomes a painful issue for me, the muscle along my shin bone takes a beating. Ive raised my seat to almost as high as it goes now and it does seem a little better, if no one else is finding an issue with those pedal hieghts then it must just be the way i drive thats causing the problem, i honestly dont know

yeah sounds like a fault definitely, does cruise control work? im thinking possibly a faulty brake pedal switch or somthing
Ive never tried the cruise control, i plan on doing a quick check on that tomorrow before i book the car in for the LC issue to be looked at, hopefully its an easy fix lol

Are you height deficient?? I’m only 5’6” (got a fat ass though) and I have my seat on the lowest setting. Sounds to be like your chair needs to slide back a little and perhaps adjust the backrest a little more upright. Can you get someone to take a picture of you sitting in your current seating position?

Im 6ft, i think thats the issue tbh, i took a pic of my foot on the brake, but its hard to see the difference on the image and probably looks fine to you. I may have to accept that im just gonna have to deal with it lol or raise the throttle, thanks for your help though mate

Been driving the Megane the last couple days, noticed that the brake pedal is about the same height above the accelerator as the Clio.

Thanks for taking the time man, i figured it was how it was supposed to be, but its still mega unconfortable for me, my 182 and my 197 cup never hurt my leg like this car does, as soon as i drove this car from the dealers when i bought it i noticed the difference in the pedals. Figured i just needed to get my seat in the right position. Ive messed with that a bit and it does seem better, but id still prefer to lower the pedal around 20mm. I realise i cant though, so im just gonna live with it. It might not even be a pedal issue, could just be the seating position in general just doesnt suit me and makes it feel like the pedals to high, since no one else has this problem lol. Dont get me wrong though, this is the best rs ive owned, and i owned the 182 for 9 years, i love this car, even the gearbox, its just this little issue that bugs me.
