New alternator

It seems that the battery in my clio no longer becomes charged while driving around and so this leads me to believe theres a fault with the alternator (plus the battery charging light on the dash doesnt illuminate when I turn the ignition). Ive rang round a couple of garages and it seems very expensive to fit a new alternator. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Did you get the existing alternator fixed or just replace it with a brand new one?

Cheers,

The dash bulb seems to be working fine. On investigating a little more it appeared some of the connections to the alternator needed some attension. Everything appears to be working again as normal, but Ill have to wait and see...

When your alternator fails your car will just conk out.

Mine took something like 2 years to finally pack up, the dash light used to flicker slightly while it was on the way out.

Got a refurbed one, but I think it still cost about £220 with fitting, cant remember exactly.
