new brake pads - how much £

Ive "only" done 15.5k (since November) in my Clio but I get the distinct impression that the brakes are worn heavily. This seems sooner than Id have expected, but I do appreciate that my driving style (giving it stick, every day) has an influence on these things.

Ive phoned my local garage - Simpkins in Chandlers Ford (because Ive heard bad things about Inchape Southampton) - and asked for a rough estimate for replacing the pads... the guy said circa 80-90 quid.

As this is the first bit of car maintainence Ive ever ever experienced, can somebody please comment/advise? (e.g. "thats about right" or "dont do it")

Cheers

Neil

Get a few quotes then you can compare, sounds about right, but I havent had to replace any on mine yet so dont know what the going rate is for clios...:)(mines done 13k and the brakes are still very good, and thats on a 172)

Well, I can only comment on Mk1s.. but 16v/Williams Pads are £12.50 ex Vat.. then you need fitting etc..

Dunno how the Mk2 differs!

my mk1 172 front pads were £40 fitted period.

renault garage quoted me £140

back pads were dead after 14,000 miles

fronts died.. and i mean died at 24,000 miles.

hope thats some help.

I must be driving like a wuss then becasue I have done 31k including 2 track days and am still on the original pads... Im gonna change them at the 36,000 service.

In my defence, most of my miles are on the motorway!:devilish:
