So after buying a corsa Vxr that I planned to do a few things to and it bit me in the backside, I decided enough was enough with buying older cars it's just not in my blood anymore to be messing around with things.

So here it is, indium grey golf gtd.

I've covered just under 1000 miles since last week and I'm loving it so far. The active info display is great as is Apple car play.
No complaints so far!

My missus has exactly the same car. The MPG figures will improve don't worry, although still only getting 39 across a tank with 3k on the clock now.

Enjoy...

I'm certainly hoping they will improve I'm around the same mark. Although I'm not keeping tabs on it just yet, still in the honeymoon period.

I think we got low 30's for the first 1500 or so miles with mixed driving, so it has improved but still not as good as you'd expect.
She loves it, her favourite car and she has had lots!

I just don't get the hype. If the thing did 50mpg I could see the point but surely a run in gti will get 35mpg? And less issues

Mine so far has seen high 30s - 45ish once its run in is expect 50+

I've done a lot of back roads to and not a whole lot of motorways to see the 39mpg range doubt you'd see the same in a gti

I've gone from an A3 TDI 184 (same engine as the GTD) to a Golf R and over exactly the same commute, my average consumption has gone from 52mpg to 29mpg so it's a pretty big like-for-like difference.

Fair enough. Everything I've been reading hasn't been kind on the reporting of the mpg. My Megane will do 35 so I'd expect a gti to do a bit more

  megane 225, clio 172
I had 50mpg average on my old GTD 14plate manual, I was motorway munching 100miles per day

You need to be driving for at least 10 minutes though. Anything less and the engine never gets warm and the mpg is terrible. But if your journeys are all less than 10 minutes, you shouldn't really have bought a diesel I guess.

I have been looking at these too .
I do 90 plus miles a day mk6gti dsg town
A roads and motorway long term average is 38mpg and that's just normal driving not eco so I would find your mpg a bit worrying even for a new car ! Is it 7 speed dsg ?
Makes me just think I may as well get another gti lol

Awesome colour and wheels combo !

Thanks mate, yeah it's 7speed dsg.

I didn't even contemplate a gti to be honest it was this or the golf R. But it was too long to wait for the new mk7.5 R so settled with this.

Not my thing really, bit bland in my eyes. Then again my missus has just bought a Jazz for our 'family' car, so I can't really say anything 😧

If only that was my drive to work.
Terrific terrain & roads.
I would be happy to do it an 850 mini or a Daf 33.

Really nice cars, not really taken to fast diesels yet as the mpg booting it for me out ways the point of a diesel in the first place with performance being warm rather than hot.
Has there been any issues with dpf filters on these as yet?
For me I don't do enough mileage, my last diesel the dpf light was on once a week, and got fed up with the constant driving to regenerate it.
How much cheaper are these to buy than a golf r?

No idea on the first question.
Not sure on how much cheaper to buy the build Cost of this was £32k however it's a lease so doesn't really matter, the golf R I wanted to lease was a good £200 a month dearer if that helps.

Had a mk7 gti facelift dsg on 48 hour demo last week fantastic car had done 250 miles when I picked it up and averaged over 40 mpg easy on my work commute 40 miles each way . So when ran in will be very economical for what it is. Not night and day different to gtd TBH.
Made me think that's the way to go now

How's the mpg now mate ? How many miles on it now ?

Very nice. Considering one after the Octavia VRS. Got the same engine in the vrs, mpg is always between 45/50, Even this morning after an aggressive drive to work I expected low mpg but it was 45.

5k on my wife's dsg now, still only get low 40s for everyday. If you drive it quickly(ish) it's in the mid 30s...

Nice car. For me, the gti would be the perfect daily. I'd put up with higher fuel costs for the sharper engine/chassis.

Given what's been said in here and what I used to get in my vRS TSI I'm not that sure the difference would be that much.
