New car rules..

Car  Megane 225 Turbo
Hi, this might be in the wrong forum being 'technically' related to insurance, so sorry if it's wrong.

I own a 55 plate Clio. This may be a really stupid question that'll have you all rolling in the aisles, but I went with my mate the other day to Tax his car and he handed over his insurance documentation, his driving licence and the latest M.O.T certificate. Now you can probably see where this is heading.

Do I need an M.O.T certificate to get re-taxed in February, because obviously being a new car, I don't have one and won't have one for 3 years. Is there a loophole or special cirumstance for new cars or have I been done?

Like I said it's probably blaringly obvious but seeings I've only had older cars before I only know their procedures.

Cheers

No you don't

You will only need and MOT certificate if the car is 3 years old or more. As its a 55 plate car you won't need one for another 3 years yet (3 yrs from date of first registration)

or do it online and all details will be checked electronically. No need for Post Office Q's or fiddly paperwork.

You may want to re tax it online. No MOT will be needed and they automatically check your insurance is up to date. Dead easy and very quick.

if your car is over 3yrs old, you will need an M.O.T. if you do it online, due to the M.O.T. being electronically recorded now.
