New Clio - Advice needed

My sister wants a new clio and is looking at 1.2 16v. Think reno have a good 0% deal on at the moment. I have said look at the dci model (not sure if this is on 0% or not??)

Can anyone offer any advice on these 2 models? Are the dci a lot more reliable etc ???

Well i have a 1.2 petrol and havent had any major problems with it at all. I thought they were doing the free insurance though not 0% interest. maybe they have a choice out of the two???

I hear the Dci is a good motor too. Girl at work has one, and hasnt had any problems with that either. As far as performance and MPG they are about the same if she gets the 1.5dci

As for which is more reliable - is there a reliable renault?? lol
I couldnt really say though, as i havent had problems with my car, but others on here will have done. Girl at work had to have new suspension struts fitted to her car though. So its all about luck i suppose.

A 1.2 clio 16v is in my opinion very slow and not nice to drive. If it was a choice between a 1.2 clio and a 1.5dci, i would buy the 1.5 dci. The 1.5 dci comes in 65 bhp, 80 bhp and 100bhp models. They range from anything up to 40-55mpg. The diesel has a lot more torque and more grunt when pulling away and accelerating.

I had the DCi 65 on a 51 plate.

It turned out a lot quicker than I thought it might be once it loosened up, was very reliable and returned 60+ mpg all day long. Great car.

having driven both as courtesy cars i would definatley go for the dci. it has bit more guts about it and a fair few mpg more

my girlfriend bought the 1.5dci over the 1.2 16v, better option. More powerful and efficient.

Great! thanks for the advice. will check out the insurance groups and see what deal they can come up with. i guess jan should be pretty slow for new car sales as everyone is skint after xmas. should be able to play a couple of dealers of each other hopefully.

Group 3 for the 1.2 and 4 for the dci.

The dci is in my mind the better engine its down a few HP over the 1.2, but in normal driving its the better engine. The 1.2 is only good when you absoulty hammer it IMO plus the 1.2s have a good sized folder of problems the only common problems with the dci is its totally dependant on its computer so any problems and it has to go back but the 1.2 have enough electric problems anyway.

The extra cost of a diesel will soon be recouped when you do a few miles plus its worth more at resale.

Id only get a 1.2 if shes doing very short drives round town.

Ive got a 1.2 ~ Id agree with edde, unless shes doing really short trips in and around town, go for the dci.

Theres free insurance I think on the dci 100 as well.

If it wasnt my money Id go for a dci 80 over a 1.2 16v anyday. Think I might take the 1.2 over the dci 65 though as I wouldnt fancy something slower than the 80.


Trouble is unless you do a lot of miles you will never recover the cost of buying the dci in fuel savings. I used to average over the year about 48mpg from my 1.2. The dci 80 was doing around 70mpg. The dci 80 felt a lot quicker too.

With my money and mileage I think I would struggle to justify the dci...

Ive got the 1.4 16V, 98bhp gives it a bit of extra power over the 1.2 and the fuel economy is not that bad - 50mpg all day on the motorway and about 42 average so far! (over 10k miles)
