New Clio Owner and New Member

  RenaultSport clio 182
Dear All,

My wife and I last week picked up our brand new Clio 182 and this is my first post on this forum. I am a car enthusiast but this is only my 2nd experience of owning a hot hatch, my first being a Citroen ZX 2.0i 16v some 6 years ago.

My main passion are Caterham 7's of which I have previously owned two. My wife is starting a new job without a company car so she needed her own car. We visited our local Motorpoint and it was the only car that we really liked, it also had the advantage of being only £11.5k :D

Well thats a liitle bit about me, I hope that I get to meet other like minded enthusiasts on this forum.

Thank you for your welcome, the car is Arctic Blue. I have some pictures but I'm not sure how to post them on this forum. The car is standard, as is the way with these car supermarkets. Can anyone tell me how long it will be before the car's engine starts to loosen up? When we picked it up last week it only had 5 miles on the clock and felt very tight. As a result it didn't feel like 182bhp. I'm sticking to the handbooks recommendation of not exceeding 3500rpm for the first 625miles.

It's done about 250 miles now and is starting to feel a bit loser. You can definately feel that its going to be a fast car once its properly run in.

I would be pleased to hear about anyone elses experiences of the car from brand new. Oh, one more question does it need an oil change after 1k miles or so?

Sorry about all these questions!

Nice one, welcome to ClioSport.

I purchased my first 172 from Motorpoint.

They really start to loosen up around 10k, then again noticeably around 20k. I'd not be too strict on the run in, just make sure it's fully warmed up and use the full rev range avoiding labouring it or thrashing it. I ran my 172 in far too gently and it never thanked me for it, the 182 I was a little harder, but the Trophy was on track by 900 miles and it's positively flying. :D

I've never bothered with an oil change at 1k, I tend to get it done every 6k though.

it gets better and better with time, 20k its really loose, 30k its even better apparently!

after about 1k you'll notice it more I would think, a lot of people will tell you to thrash it from new... but I didn't rev over 5k rpm too often for the first 1000 miles personally.

Enjoy!

Same here... Followed the handbook exactly on my 172 but when I got my Cup I was driving as normal from day 1 and the engine feels much looser as a result.

arctic is fantastic.. thats why i got one :D

funny you should mention the 'run in properly' as the manual says.. theres a website that has a totally opposite method for running and engine in to get the best performance from it..

loosens up after about 2/3k i would say that once you get past the 625 marker that you be a bit less forgiving it makes sense

im on 26k and had it 2 years to the day, you wont regret it

i stuck to the reccomendation on running in tbh, mine seemed well tight to begin with, but once the engine had a few miles on it helped no end. no on 19.5k, seems to be going verywell indeed!

yo and welcome

Hello and good to have you on board!

Some good roads around Burnley, I was only up there 3 weeks ago.

I've had my CS for 20 months and had a Williams before, as for the CS it just doesn't stop surprising me and putting smiles on my face and surprise on others - get in there!

Enjoy and welcome. Oh and mine is now approaching 80k and it still loves it!! Plan on running this car for ever, even as a 2nd car (for track days of course!)
