New Clio RS(226)!!

The Sport version of the new clio is suppose(spelling) to have 226bhp!! Mental!About same size as the current clio. I read it in a Swedish motor magazine. There was a computermade picture of the new clio as well but i can´t find it on the web. Looks OK. I personally think the clio will share engine with the new Megane RS.(2ltr Turbo)

its pretty certain that the next clio sport will have 190-210 bhp

its also pretty certain its going to be a turbo

in fact imho its going to be a detuned version of the megane engine and it may have 4wd (the micra platform is engineered for 4wd)

mos def a 6 speed box with an lsd like the megane RS will have

The Megane lump is a tuned version of the 165bhp 2.0 turbo in the Vel Satis, which is in itself a blown version of the 140bhp 2.0 found in the later Megane Coupe and Volvo S40 2.0.

Hopefully Renault will play on the turbo heritage a bit.

Must say i like a highly tuned NA more then a turbo but from a carmakers pov turbo is less cost and weight per bhp.

Damn, I sure would like to see a naturaly aspirated engine making those figures. Now that would be fun. The turbo is the easy way out and I would rather see a bit more engineering development like Honda did with the S2000 which makes even more power without a turbo.

If there is a turbo on the way, 226bhp in a 172 weight car will be mental, no doubt but ...

Its no breakthough in technology, the 12 yr (ish) old Escort Cossie was a 2.0 turbo and as std that was 227bhp and we all know how much that lump was detuned to get it down to that power figure. As std will do 60 in 5.6 anyway I think.

If its priced like a 172 though ...

Then weve got a breakthough that will shack the sports car world to its knees!!

It´s comming out next year according to the magazine. There is a picture of what it may look like.Boxy design with a Avantime/New megane/new Epace-like front grille,not a picture from Renault. I can scan the pic at work tomorrow if anyone could host it?

The new clio is very megane ish lookin and i did mention the same 220bhp motor out of the megane RS.....which is nothing more than a tunned F4R turbo as Ben H said comes out of the laguna turbo, Vel Satis Turbo and new Espace Turbo.....

All Ren engines are gonna be the same with varying sizes of turbos soon...LOL!

Its based on the floor plan on the new Micra so will probably not handle that well. Clio Cup may still be faster point to point

i think youll find its the other way round....the micra is based on the Renault platform.....

its similar, the new clio has front VERY VERY VERY similar to the meganes, as its their new styling philosophy but it aint as tall and still has a hatch back, although still in keeping with the weird rear philosophy...LOL

Still, no point getting too excited as its not out til late 2004! By then Ill have tuned my Cup up to 300Bhp ATW so wont need the new turbo...

Im looking forward to the new clio, im a big fan of Renaults design team, and it makes sense to bring out turbos with all the company car tax stuff. I also like the new micra, looks really funky and they were pretty damn good in the road tests ive read.
