New dephaser pulley has 1mm of play

Hi all,

I have just fitted a brand new dephaser pulley and 421 cat cams and timed the engine up. To be on the safe side I checked the cams for play and I have about 1mm of play on my inlet cam is this right? Or have I been sold a knackerd dephaser?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Id like to know aswell as ive just had some cams fitted into mine and my dephaser had about 1mm ish of play too.

I have a old horse shoe cam positioning tool and if I put it in the end of the inlet cam it turns 1mm but the pulley does not move.

It is a moving part so there will always be a little movement. You'd likely find that there's less play once it's run and there is oil in the pulley.

My brand new dephaser had a small amount of play when I fitted it. Think it's normal.
