New Head Unit

Hi guys! Im looking for some advice. Its about time I got round to changing the head unit in my 182 Trophy. I am an audiophile so want the best sound quality. I would like a good IPOD connection, FM radio and the best quality CD player. I have seen a good Nakamichi one. Is this any good? What other units would you recommend from Alpine, Pioneer etc. Where should I buy it from? What difference does this "continuous power supply" make to me?

I would reccomend Pioneer if your gonna spend some decent wedge... But reall you wan to run all speakers from an amplifier.. Go for Rainbow or JL audio...

dont worry about wattage... As long as your willing to spend fairly decent amounts of money on speakers and amps it will definitly be lound enough..

How much are you looking to spend on a system and are you after loudness (i.e. Sub in the boot etc) or a quality "normal" speaker set-up?

Hi, thanks for the reply. I would much rather have a quality normal system, as you put it. Im not after extreme bass or mega loud. Just purity of sound. I have seen some really nice Focal speakers but they were more than I really wanted to pay. Have not got a budget, money not a problem. But I was thinking of just doing the head unit at the moment cause I am planning to change to a Mitsubishi Evo 9 next year. Could you recommend any websites for buying and reviews. Also which model of Pioneer should I go for? Which is the best?

I think pioneer are so overpirced for what they are, you pay through the nose for the brand name. In my opinion alpine stuff is far more reasonably priced and better quality.

Ok I will look into them as well. What about build quality/reliability?
I have seen a Pioneer HU the 88RS (reference series) about £430. Anyone know this. It looks very good.

Everyone has a self preference to a Headunit. Its what you want that counts my best advice would be to ask around your mates with what they have, have a listen to them ( obviously they're setups will all be different ) but see what you think.

Speakers if your not looking to spend mega amounts you cant go wrong with Alpine,Pioneer.

go second hand... Go for some jl audio XR series components for the front. go for some JL audio XR coaxils for the rear. Get either a poineer or alpine head unit... anyone which is worth about £250 should be good... but again get it off ebay (you save sooo much), run all of that lok off 1, 4-channel amp, (NOT JBL, Xplod etc), go rainbow, older rockford fosgate amps, JL audio.
