New Install - Suggestions/Opinions

  1995 Mondeo Speed Machine

My current system consists of 5.25in Infinity Co-axials, Infinity 6x9s and a JL Audio 12in sub. The sub is run off a Pioneer 2channel amp and the other speakers are run straight from the Head Unit.

What I want do is get some high quality components, keep the sub and possibly get rid of the 6x9s. Im planning to amplify the whole thing. Should I get a single 4 channel amp to run the speakers and the sub or would I be better off getting two 2 Channel amps that way potentially getting better control over the sound thats being sent to the speakers.

Alternatively I might go for two 12in subs in which case the decision on the amps is pretty much made for me. Will two 12s make a significant difference over a single sub?

Any opinions or suggestions on alternative layouts would be greatfully received.

Cheers

Rick

i would amp up the speakers and subs seperately

yes 2 12s will be alot better

if the 6x9s are on the parcel shelf either make a box for each or get rid o em

if its a 5 door get some rear door speakers
if its a 3 door ive got rear speakers in the side pannels.

im personally not one for all the treble up front and all the bass at the back

I agree with what your saying about having all the bass at the back and the treble up front, thats why Im not so sure about getting rid of the 6x9s cos they fill the car much better than the fronts. Theyre in a stealth shelf at the moment but the problem is when you want to show off your subs youve got lift the whole thing up, and its bloody heavy!!!!

You say youve got speakers in the side panels. Do you mean youve cut out holes in the panels next to the seats or have you used the existing holes that are next to the shelf??

if u take off the rear plastic panels u are presented with the chasis of the car, there is a hole that i screwed a board to and mounted my speakers on this thencut out a whole in the plastic panel and made anew hollow doorcard and stuck it back on so the sound could come through

hard to describe but it works great

oh and u shouldnt have ya subs right up with the boot open, doesnt do em any good at all

I think I know what you mean!?!

Does this mean then that you can see the speaker itself or is it covered by the door card??

Im probably going to go for two subs in the back and get a 4 and a 2 channel amp, possibly Legacy ones with the in car adjustable bass. Ive already got a layout in my head for what the final build is going to look like, not too outrageous but it should look good with some neons. I think Im going to use a mixture of vinyl and spray paint to finish it off.

Oh yeah, Im from Lincoln, miles away from anywhere really!!

Rick

no u cant see the speaker it is covered by the newly made doorcard with a whole and covered in fabric so the sound goes through.

was gonna offer to help ya but lincoln is along way from junction 8 on the m25 lol

goodluck

I would get a five channel amp i just got a genisis one and it rocks, it powers 2 sets of focal components and two focal 11 inch subs.....
