New key fob needed!

  Clio 172 P1
Hi my Y reg 172 needs a new key or key fob casing.

When I press the button on the fob it doesnt click, just depresses like something is broken. The LED does not light up at all so I'm not sure if its the battery that needs replacing or whether I need a new case which I've seen on ebay for around £10.

At the moment I'm locking the car by shutting all doors bar the drivers door and pushing the lock button in front of the handbrake, getting out, shutting the drivers door and locking that by using the key. This locks the car up but is irritating and I'd like to get the key sorted.

I'm less interested in fixing my current key as I only have one and would like 2 with at least one with working central locking.

Any advice or places of repair in Essex would be appreciated.

Ryan

The micro switch on the circuit board has come off - split the key and solder it back on. It should work perfect after this.

New keys cost £120 + vat supplied and coded - repair this one then if you wish order a new one from Renault

I hate people who write things like this ^^^^^^^

You dont know whats wrong with it.

Replace the battery and see what happens, if that dont make any difference, go from there.

lmao, some people.

Just because your a "renault specialist" dont mean you know whats wrong with HIS exact key does it?

Could just be a dead battery, could be anything.

LOL, All im saying is, yes, that could be the normal problem, but you aint seen his key so you cant say exactly what it is.

haha. So if it doesn't even click... how's it gonna be the battery?! The "micro switch" came off my spare one.

working in Renault parts as i do, it will definitely be as Matt has suggested, the switches are common for coming away from the circuit board, it WILL be this

be careful not to lose the switch when you open the key

Nick how many keys have you dealt with ?.......i have dealt with around 300+ key orders, if your talking about people coming in with issues, id say its over 1200 easily, not everyone orders a new key as some cant afford it, and some can be fixed as per this one, i get asked about keys an absolute minimum of twice a day

I thought this forum was here for help and discussion not silly arguments! My button works fine, but the LED doesn't light up - not a big problem, but may be irritating later on if i have a key related problem to diagnose.

Guys Guys !

What kind of example does that set for us to a new member like the OP asking a perfectly valid question !?

Matt your more than likely correct there, and great write up with pics, but easy with the language mate !

OP open the key up and see what you find, if it is as we think, give Matt's suggestion a try all should be well.

Si :)

Kinda related. But if your going down the route of a new key i just got one yesturday. Your looking at £120 for the new key + blade and another £40 odd to get it programmed.

Luckily mine was covered thanks to www.boomerang-tag.co.uk so it didnt cost me a penny :D

Greenlight who my car is insured with just gave it to me really. I didnt get asked if i wanted it or the choice to opt out of it.

From the looks of things it works on the same principle as those "we repair your chipped windscreen if your fully comp insured" places, only this is for keys instead :)
