Only the central locking will need to be coded. It will start they car straight out the bag.

Strangely,my mechanic told me this over the weekend when i pulled the new key blade and transponder from the bag. It didnt even start the car. Was the wrong key ordered?

Depends what type of system you have on the car. Early phase 1 had infra red keys which required programming. Later ph1 (1999 to 2001) had RF keys which came from France already coded and just the central locking needed syncing. Phase 2 clios are what they call virgin keys. They are completely blank when sold and need to be paired with your car for the starting side of it and the locking side.

I have the Clio 2 Ph 2. How is the key paired with the car?
