my current laptop I use for running my cnc machines and doing cad work has finally given up, so its time to get a new one.

current laptop is a dell 1750 (which is mega old) with p8800 processor 2.66ghz, 4gb ram and Samsung ssd

didn't want to spend anymore than £300 on a replacement one.

brand new for 300 I have this option -

no idea if middle ones processor is any good?

or this as a kind of second hand option

theres a number of different options on the dell outlet site

or something like this on ebay

Yeah thwy are decent to be fair. My old man has one and a couple of other people i know have them.
I use it sometimes for cad drawings, coreldraw, indesign, illustator etc.
Is the same i3 processor as that tesco one and runs them easily at the same time.
Bargain that is. Might even get one myself.

Are your CNC programs CPU/memory intensive in anyway?

Also, how do you connect to the CNC devices from the laptop? Are they USB or via serial? We've got one particular CNC machine at work that is a right PITA as it relies solely on NetBIOS for connection. Literally steam powered, it's that old, lol.

Not really no, they connect via ethernet cable.

Basically they have said they will have this one back and give me an extra £50 to put towards a different model as this one is out of stock now

Shame there isnt any i3 laptops on there in the same budget.
Am going for the next model up with 8gb ram and a 1tb hard drive. Slightly slower processor but for what it will be used for will be fine.

haha, always one :p
Ive never had an issue with AMD.
Literally all it will be used for is putting photos on and editing. Any laptop would do that.

I think it's more to do with your bang for buck comment. Yes AMD is cheaper, but it has no bang.

Should be fine for your use as you say though.

If its any consolation I'm typing this on mine, pretty pleased with it even if I don't know what I'm doing with Windows 10.

Came with a spare battery too....

Not sure how techie you are but if you ever plan on changing to an SSD hard drive to up the performance Lenovo love to whitelist. So basically you can only fit hardware they list as ok. There are ways round it, but it's a bit of a ball ache. I only mention it as I had a spare SSD I was going to put in the missus Lenovo to give it a performance boost, obviously it wasn't on the whitelist so wouldnt recognise it 😞.
