New laptop old iPod, will I lose my songs??

I've just installed itunes and my library is empty, but I have an ipod full of songs that I don't want to lose. Will I lose them if I synchronise my iPod to my laptop when I connect it via USB?

Yes, but there's a free program (sharepod) which will let you copy the music off the pod into iTunes.

I've installed sharepod but I'm having trouble moving my tunes to my pc, surely I don't have to do it one track at a time? How do I select all tracks?
