New MacBook air help

So I've just bought a new MacBook air and I'm completely new to the whole apple way of doing things.

All the music off my old laptop is saved to an external hard drive, will I be able to just plug this into the air and move the music across?

a few ways of going about it, either drop all the music into the iTunes music folder, or put it somewhere else and tell iTunes to import from file/folder

If its alot of music, i'd leave it on the drive.

Not exactly a ton of room on an air.
