Hello everyone!

Just got myself a 2010 RS200 in liquid yellow. Finally took the plunge of getting a manual car in a city obsessed with automatic boxes. The roads are not the best and the traffic is often unforgiving, but I am still enjoying it. I have a couple of queries and I am hoping you'll be able to help me out.

- Some gears, particularly 1st to 3rd, have a mild grind/crunch (not audible) during shifting. If I flick it back to neutral and shift again, it's gone. Renault advised me not to worry about it and assured me they'll run a check during the 10k service (the car had 3.5k on the clock when I bought it and I've just crossed 5k). Could there be an issue with gearbox or is that much of roughness normal?

- Pulling away from 1st invariably involves a bit of hesitation and kangarooing. Could this be because I am releasing the clutch suddenly or the time I spent in 1st before I shift?

- What are the ideal speeds for gear changes? I haven't been revving higher than 5k. I just listen to the engine and decide when it's best.

- Does a K&N Apollo Induction Kit make a difference to the power or is it just the sound that changes? Also, do these modifications affect the warranty of the car?

Thanks a lot in advance for your advice.

Don't change until the engine is screaming... at 5k, it's only just getting going!! I don't know what it's like on the 200, but on the 172 there are 2 limiters; one at 6700rpm and the other at 7200rpm. When the car is up to temp, 7200rpm is the limit. Push it and watch the smile on your face grow!

Our 200 is like this. When its cold, its has a paddy then up to temp, it turn into a complete animal :)

Welcome along mate,

Yep, these engines love to be revved when warm. It's not like you have to worry about MPG figures in the UAE ;)

I'll keep my eyes peeled for a LY 200 when I'm next out there, there can't be many!

Thanks a lot for your replies. Will definitely rev the engine more. There are not many 200s around. The dealer told me just about 50 or so in the city. You are likely to see more super cars on the road. Bentleys, Ferraris and all Mercedes-AMG models.

The traffic is annoying. I try leaving work a bit late, so I don't have to crawl back in 2nd and 3rd. I am in advertising.

Ah right - cool.

Yea very unusual to have a manual, pretty much all autos over there but fuel is soooooooooooooo cheap.
