Clio 172 Exclusive
Hello! I am very excited to join the Renault Sport club! I spent a long time looking for a 172 phase 1 after owning a Clio Mk2 RSI and I was lucky (or unlucky) to find a dodgy Exclusive on Facebook Marketplace. I knew it was going to be a project but I didn't quite expect it to take so much work!
It wasn't as the previous MOT indicated with only an advisory for sill corrosion but closer to the previous failed MOT with 18 issues... Since April I have been working on the car to fix the issues and bring it to an OEM+ spec.
Suspension has been refreshed all the way round with B14 coilovers, fresh rubber on all four corners, original radio sourced and fitted with working cassette and 6-disc changer, angel eye headlights replaced with OEM with previous wiring botches fixed, the active lightening (rotten sills) have been repaired, three seized brake calipers replaced, rattling backbox replaced, exhaust mounts changed and all the major service items have been completed.
So far it has been enjoyed at a classic car show and on both "maiden" drives it's ended up being taken back to the garage by the AA.
It's not quite the ownership experience I have wanted but I have enjoyed all 40 miles it's driven and I'm excited for the miles (and please, fewer breakdowns) to come!
Last bits to finish include fixing and preventing the last of the rust, refresh the remaining suspension components and fix the crunchy gearbox.... and working A/C would be nice!
