New member - with a question or two

  Audi TT
Hi - New to the Forum and looking at a Clio 1.6 EDC. I'm a retired Tech. Author currently running a Mk1 TT 225. Its a fantastic car but I really do need an automatic and fancy a change. I was after a PH2 but spotted a PH1 import (Ebay - 256836280577 ). Are there any pitfalls to buying an import, other than insurance, that I should be aware of. My main concern is that Importers do not always have the best reputation. Your comments, advice are welcome. Or does the panel think that holding out for a PH2 is the better option?

Thanks

Cub.

Hi.
If you have any issues with insurance at all for an imported vehicle then please feel free to drop me a line.
Regards,
Dan.

I can’t comment on a ph2 as I’ve only ever had my ph1.

LY is the most awesome colour but the worst at the same time. The cost to repair is huge and the skill in matching and blending is hard to find.

Still, I’ve had mine 7 years and has just ticked over 215k and it’s been the best car I’ve owned.

Biggest benefit to going ph2 for me is the LED headlights, once your used to a car with LED headlights it's hard to go back! Maybe it's just my eyes getting old!

I believe the facelift cars all got the revised gearbox software similar to the trophy too?

I mow have my Clio - 2015 200 Lux 78k. FSH and a clean MOT history, recent tyres, discs n pads with what look like refurbed wheels. Picked it up yesterday from Vertu in Plymouth. 320 mile trip back to Ipswich. Took it out today for a quick thrash in Sport and Race modes. Sitting with a smile on my face - gear changes are slick and positive, I cant fathom where all the criticism came from...

Brakes are a lttle fierce 'bout half an inch and they are solid - i think the hoses may already have been replaced for stainless - Guess who bought a set last week...

Exhaust is a little underwhelming. may ask Santa for a Scorpion pipe.

Only issue, and its minor, is the damping. Its firm enough but a little "Floaty" Thinking about some cooksports. Next up is a marathon detailing session

Nice, what tyres does it have on it? Dealers generally stick ling longs on it and that will definitely make it feel floaty and disconnected.

Eagle F1's allround. To be fair, it's a first impression and something I'll get used to after some miles. It could just be a French thing....
I’ve only ever run Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and the last 2 years PS5’s. I’m running Cooksport springs and it feels planted. Inspires confidence.

I have some time to think it over - drove home on temp. cover. I wont be putting it on the road till I sell my TT. I think I'll order some lowering springs. The Trophy runs 20/30 lower as stock so thats what I'll go for. As for tyres I have used Nexen's on my last 2 cars and had a set fitted to the TT when I bought it. I cant fault them. The harder I push the harder they grip = even when its wet they are utterly predictable. At 80 a corner fitted they are also a bargain.

A set of Grams springs is on my shopping list and I'm probably looking at a Scorpion cat back the month after. I already have an Airtec cold side hose, Mocal braided lines and a full service - filters, fluids, plugs etc planned and as soon as it stops raining, a snow foam, clay, polish n wax planned.

Thanks for all your replies.
