I haven't really used the kit lens since I got mine. Love it.

I never use mine any more... since I got my 10-20, and now this... I'm half tempted to flog mine..! Wonder if it's worth much more than a mars bar on the bay of E ?

Wouldn't wanna take a photo of a Microsoft one ... might catch a virus :rasp:

It does create some beautiful bokeh! Took this 1/2 hour ago. We could turn this into the 50mm 1.8 appreciation thread.

I don't think there is to justify the price, but IQ is normally better at 2.8 with the 1.4's.

  Works...kind of...
Aside from the gigantic price jump .. is there THAT much difference from 1.8 down to 1.4 !?

If you're talking about the Canon EF 50mm 1.4: It's quicker at focusing and is better at focusing in low light. Has a better build quality and uses a metal EOS mount. It has better bokeh too.

I don't think the price difference is worth it personally.

The Takumar I'm talking about is from the 60's and is still a highly regarded lens. Some people even say it's the best one you can buy. You can pick up a mint one for similar money to the Canon f/1.8. The only downside is you can only manual focus but I prefer that.

Anyway, good shots mate. The 50mm 1.8 is excellent for some experimentation.

Here's the first two random pics i've taken with it... completely untouched but obviously resized by Photobucket... (please note.. I'm not a fancy photographer like some on here) :)
