New pads to use

Recently got myself a Kesral DAS-6 .

Bought it from Matt at I4 with the menz polishes and pads.

My question is I notice some of the 3M pads and Lake country ones have a different finish to them (pitted almost) so what is the difference and which is bst to use???

My thinking was ones like the 3m and lake country ones would be better as there not totally flat like the menz and sonus ones so therefore would be better to use on certain ares of the car?? The pad stuff is all new to me thats all.

its usually to keep the heat down that the pads are designed like that, but it also helps when using certain polishes - improving the working time and maximizing their potential to remove swirls and other defects

i quite like the lake country ones, i'm still on practise panels with my kestrel DA and ive not got all the LC pads in their range yet but they are nice to use, clean up easily after use and don't get too warm. ive got some Serious Performance pads on order so i'll beable to compare them

As stated, they achieve different things. The great thing about the Menz pads is their firmness, and how well they can cut via DA. Using a 3M polishing pad for example, won't deliver the same levels of correction as a Menz orange pad, but it will be easier to work with and control.

The Sonus SFX pads are probably my second choice by DA after the Menz ones - again flat, but a bit softer and easier to use.

Hi Russ ive found the menz pads pretty good on my mercedes practise wing - particually with menz polishes

TBH Richy, I'm liking this newbie (to CS) Kev. What he has said is spot on.

Reviews from my end;

LLC pads are superior cut and break down of polish, but do not last any where near as long as the sonus pads I started with.

Sonus pads seem to have a longer work in time, but also can get very hot due to the large S/A on the paint work.

3M I have not had experience with, but know that these coupled with the Menz pads have been a good hit with the Highlander (Ali).

sweet, you can never have too many microfibres IMO - cheap too at 10 quid for 50 of them

I use them on the engine/wheels and other bits..havent dared let them near paintwork yet.

ooops, meant to put 20 not 10:banghead:, yep they are the screwfix ones. would'nt use them on paintwork myself just incase.. ive got a few for the paintwork anyway

with the menz by DA, id go with the menz pads aswell, they are excellent

As above, the Menz pads on a DA give the machine that bit extra bite you need. What polsih did you get?

Normal route is PO85RD3.02 on a polishing (orange) moving up to teh white pad if you need more cut.

Followe by PO85RD Final Finish for full on gloss.

Menzerna Power Finish PO 85 RD 3.02
and
Menzerna Final Finish PO 85 RE 5

Had a quick go over half the bonnet the other day with the 3.02 and tried some SSR2.5 on an orange pad and it did great didnt remove all my swirls as I rushed it a bit as light was fading but at least I know for next time to work in the polish more.

Might look at getting more aggressive menz polish though as I have a very nasty scratch down my rear panel which the 3.02 almost got out but not quite. Maybe a few more passes and it might come out with the 3.02 though
