Ok here we go....
Styling
I like many others on here didn't like the front end when the initial pictures were put out. What I will say is it looks a lot better in the flesh.
The black part on the front won't wear well with stone chips etc.. I've got a nice one on mine already and I've only done 300 miles
The whole front feels a bit flimsy too. You can move it about quite a lot by hand.
The wing mirrors are HUGE... Much bigger than the 197 mirrors.. They don't look too big for the car though.. The black also looks quite good IMO
The rear end looks mean and makes the car look squat to the ground (I don't care if the exhaust is false!!)
The jury is still out on the wheels but they are growing on me.. one thing I will say is they don't offer much protection for the callipers from stone chips... got one on mine already
Interior
The recaros are superb end of... should of got them in my 197.. they probably won't wear well but they are still superb...250 mile drive last night and I was comfortable all the way.. The standard 197 seats were good but gave me back ache on a long journeys..
The instrument display is better than the 197 which looked a bit bland
IMO..
The cruise control button has been moved down near the handbrake. Not sure why.. might be a safety issue as it was difficult to see where it was on the 197 when driving..
Climate control is another plus from my 197.. the standard air con was always either too hot or too cold..I could never get a happy medium..
Auto lights and wipers are an nice novelty...the wipers are actually very good..always at the right speed for the conditions..
The radio is supposedly better.. I wouldn't know..it just plays music for me.. Slightly bigger display on top of the dash just shows more useless info IMO
The anthrasite trim looks better than the silver effect I had in the 197 too
The rear bench looks gash... but I never sit in the back so not arsed
Handling
I was really shocked how different it feels compared to the 197 which had the cup suspension too.. It feels a lot more solid and corners really flat.. Strangely it seems to ride the bumps better than my 197 did.. The big crease in the road on the A14 I hit daily in my 197 felt much more comfortable in the 200..
Steering is sharper too... nearly got caught out by this coming out of my drive which is quite narrow.. turned like I did with the 197 and nearly caught the curb..
Engine and Gearbox
To start with this is the gearbox and engine set up the 197 should of had from the start...everything that was bad on the 197 is fixed on the 200... I had a flat spot on the 197 like many others had...this has been totally fixed.. The difference in low down torque is huge.. Literally within 10 seconds of driving out the showroom I had a big smile on my face.. It justs gets going from 0 revs and pulls hard and smooth.. my 197 was dog from low revs.. Not had any of the cold start jumping that plagued the 197..
The gearbox feels much more solid..my 197 gearbox got very crunchy when revving hard.. You notice the shortened gearing in first and second immediately on driving the car..makes it feel much more eager..
The noise the thing makes is awesome.. the 197 sounded great but this is something else... Get it up the revs and the sound is very addictive
Conclusion
I've covered 300 miles over A roads, motorway and the woodhead pass so a good mix of driving conditions.. I am in no doubt I made the right choice.. The 197 was good but this is just better. I'm not just saying that because I own it. People who have owned a 197 but not driven a 200 reserve your comments until you do. People who have not owned or driven either save your keyboard. I've commuted 60 miles every day in the 197 for over a year so know the car very well... Styling aside, as its not for all, the 200 is simply a much better drive.. easier to drive quick and an all round better feel..
