New strut top mounts

that seems well cheap - the pair of components cost about £40 at ECP/GSF. can't go wrong at £6 though - you've not lost much at all if they turn out to be junk (assuming you're fitting them yourself). my exp. has been that renewing the top mounts helps, but that the noises return after a few thousand miles - think it's another 'live with it' feature

I take it there isn't any consequence if you do learn to live it?

don't think so - think the noise is just the springs shifting about in their cups whilst on full lock, due to the increased clearance in worn (compressed) rubber donuts. it's just slightly annoying if you want it to be imo. the OE top mounts are rubbish
