New suspension setup?

  Clio172 / Focus Ti X
While my 172 is off the road getting engine work done i am going to do a bit work on the suspension in the meantime. Problem is. im spoilt for choice.

Current setup is Apex springs with standard shocks and im happy with the way the car is sitting height wise.

Im definately going for some powerflex bushes and considering the rose joint type rear axle mounts to replace the bushes as i will be using the car for track in a little while.

The springs have been good but i think my shocks are starting to get a little tired on the back. How do people find the AP coilovers? i wouldnt mind a set of these for when i hit the track.

In the meantime, whats a decent spring/shock setup? i could probably still use my current springs and just buy a set of good shocks to fit them to.

Any ideas folks?

I´d say the APs are too soft for track. Better go for H&Rs. Whiteline rear ARB gets rated on here.

Yeah i thought a few people would say that about the AP's. Think alot of the lower/budget end coils are a little too soft for the track. H&R's or KW's for the track? think i'll save for a set but i do need to change the shocks to a decent set in the mean time.

Been looking at the ARB's. Might throw these on as well seeing as i'm dropping the subframe etc

What tyres are you going to use on track and realistically how much is the car going to spend there. Still used on the road or dedicated to a life hitting apexes?

  RS 182 CUP
i think H and Rs might still be a little soft for the track, plus theres a lack of adjustability on h and rs,

Its not going to spend a huge time on the track at the moment. Maybe one trackday every two months. Dont have the brakes and tyres funding to put it out all the time. it'll be around knockhill most the time.

Had a long think tonight, the car wont be used as a day to day car now so i can compromise on comfort. im just going to do away with the shocks and springs idea and get coilovers, adjustability would be nice to have though. even just damping. It wont sit -40mm or more so height aint an issue. -25 or 30mm will be max

Anyone know people around my area within 40 or 50 miles who can set cars up on coilovers, corner weighing etc?

Tyrewise i already have a set of Yoko A048's 195 50 16.

You are going to need the AST Sportline 2 kit
All the others are going to be a compromise for a dedicated track car.
It has a nice thick strut for strength so you can attack those curbs, high oil capacity and nice stiff setup to work those tyres well. Yes its a lot of money but I think a road coilover will leave you disappointed

H&R coilovers are also in a clubsport version available. Setting a coilover up is more than just playing with the damping, so fully adjustables have the disadvantage that you can also make things worse as a suspension "rookie".

yeah i wont be setting these up. Iv had KW's etc before. Teins on my old MR2 and managed to set them up so they were not too bad. But no where near what they would require on the track.

Need to have a hunt around for places up my way to do it.

We can get the H&R Clubsport as well.
As for a garage to fit them - any mechanic with half a brain can fit coilovers. Corner weighting is nice but not essential.

  Clio172 / Focus Ti X
In that case il be able to fit them myself :)

Iv had a look on your website at exhausts also. How do people rate the supersprint stealth system, i rate supersprint one of the bestout there but how come you never hear of anyone having them on their 1*2's?

Noone will rate the supersprint stealth as I have the only one fitted to a car in the uk. Theres another guy in Italy who is quite happy with it though. We've only just got it manufactured so its brand new on the market.

being supersprint im sure its a good fit.

Think im gonna get one of these! cost a bit more but sure its worth it. always thought they are the best

Clubsports have a modified damping and different spring rates (adjusted for the ´Ring). But they also have hillclimb, GP and slalom race setups available:

Clio B 2.0l-16V Clubsport-NR-NS VA/HA RSS-38-389-1/1
bis 132 KW Rennen-Slalom VA/HA RSL-38-389-1/1
Rennen-NR-NS VA/HA RSN-38-389-1/1
Rennen-GP-Kurs VA/HA RSN-38-389-2/1
Bergrennen VA/HA RSB-38-389-1/1

Clubsport is a track setup, the normal off the shelf kits are more road orientated.

we should be getting some video footage of the car in a few weeks. First we are moving to a new unit..

That will be good. How does the exhaust sound? is it a loud system all the time or does it wake up when you give it some?

  172 Ph1, Lupo GTI
I'm running the twin box with standard twin cat. Its has a deep burble at idle and is quiet at low revs. If running a high engine load, say cruising up hill in 5th, it can be a bit boomy at 2500rpm but it quietens off again as speed picks up or you ease off the accelerator. That's quietened down a little with use. When you floor it ... it sounds absolutely mental as you go above 5000rpm!

  Clio172 / Focus Ti X
I have an un-silenced decat so it will probably be loud as hell on mine then? Dont think im bothered now though. I was looking at exhausts a few months back and wasnt sure what to get as I wasnt wanting something too loud, but now I think I'll just go for it and get one regardless of noise. My kwik fit special sounds a bit.....poofy :dapprove:
