New Tyres

My 182 With cup pack now needs two new fronts at 8000miles but which ones are best .

im toying with replacing all four with some Yokohama A520 but is there anything else anyone can recommend .

I drive 150 miles a day and am not to worried about the ride just the handling and now with the wet weather lots of grip .

let us know

My 182 is needing new fronts, and I am going to buy Exalto PE2s as fitted from new for £78.80 at http://www.mytyres.comwww.mytyres.com. I hope that they come with the correct orange colour banding to supposedly differentiate them as the stiffened sidewall ones, but on the other hand if they have not It will be interesting to see if there is a noticeable difference.

I got 12k out of mine, mostly motorway but does have the occasional scumming. Very impressed with the grip wet and dry as well.

Used Yokos for years on my golf, cant remember the code for the ones I used to use which the A509 replaced, but the A520s I have got on it now dont last long at all and they dont seem to grip as well as the earlier tyre.

welsh what wheels are they on the picture of your car they look awesome ??

cheers for the advice probaly put 2 of the standard tyres on the front .

used to have some A520 on my old M3 and they were okay .

the 182 needs exactley the right tyre or all the handling goes out the window

i disagree fundamentally with the statement about the 182 needing exactly the right tyre relating to the handling.

Renault have to come to a cost prohibative compromise that would mean that serious performance tyres would probably go out the window, i appreciate that they were "designed for the car" however, there are better tyres out there for a standard car normally (note normally)

Ill have two 4 X pe2s and a set of those wheels please !!! umh 17 or 16 inch not sure what do you reckon

Yoz

have you ever seen the evo magazine test using a mk2 172

they basically throw a car around a track using ten different tyres

the results are amazing the differences were so apparant

i agree with what your saying to a point that there are better tyres but if you put a set of pirelli p6000 on a 182 i imagine the drive would be no where near as good as using the standard tyres

I did see the evo article, and i think i saw a test that clarkeson did with the 172 around bedford.

I agree the results between the different tyres are varied, and i assure you that the standard continental did not come out top ;-)

It all depends on the type of driving you do, motorway, a road/b-road, track, what pressures you run, if you want to put new tyres on every 8000 miles or every 14,000 miles, if you can cope with a tyre that is great in the dry and average in the wet etc.. etc..

I have run my cup on:

Standard Contisports - 195/45/16 v & 205/45/16 v
Uniroyal RainSports - 195/45/16 v
GoodYear GSD3 - 205/45/16 V XL
Yokie A539 - 195/45/16 & 205/45/15

as well as Michelin Full Slicks & Michelin Pilot Sport Cups on a 15" profile.

and having supplied lots of people on here with tyres also, the various feedback adds up.

the differences between all of these have been immense. The one bit of advice that I would give you is to try new things, you can always revert back to what you had on before, rather than sticking with the standard rubber. the yokies suit the car very well IMO.
