New user + newbie questions!

Hi every1, i just joined the forum :)

Im 19 from cambridge, gonna pass my test in 9 days, and looking for a first car to buy. Originally I was looking for a black 1.4rt, but the only ones on autotrader are upwards of £2k, and im looking to spend about £1.5k. Im thinking of either:

a) Getting another colour clio 1.4rt e.g. dark blue / red / dark green
b) Getting a 16v (how much extra would insurance be?) like this one http://pictures.autotrader.co.uk/ATD_web/servlet/media?id=36321267http://pictures.autotrader.co.uk/ATD_web/servlet/media?id=36321267

Which should i go for? How much difference is there between the 1.4rt and the 16v?

Also a few newbie questions:

1) Whats a 172?
2) Wheres the best place to get insurance for modded cars?
3) How can I get a car home when i buy it without a license?
4) How much do back spoilers like this cost and where do I get them from?
http://pictures.autotrader.co.uk/ATD_web/servlet/media?id=35213143http://pictures.autotrader.co.uk/ATD_web/servlet/media?id=35213143
5) Is there a lot of handling difference between having 17s/16s/15s on?
6) How much do 17s like the one in the top pic cost?

Thanks a lot :)

Mike

172 is anew shape clio with a 2litre engine produsing 172ps

at your age with no no cliams your gonna get buggerd where ever u go

you cant someone else with one needs to get it back for u

yes there can be loads between those different wheel sizes

for 17s with tires you can pay between 500 and 1k

oh between a 1.4 and a 16v its like comparing a 2cv to a ferrari lol

i seriously doubt you would get insured on a valver anyway

Welcome!!!!!!!:D

1) The car I started with LoL

2) Adrian Flux or Liverpool Victoria

3) Someone else will have to have insurance for the car (it must specify the car, it cant be only on their 3rd party on other vehicles cover)

4) Dunno

5) Yes, but handling can increase with size, but ride comfort can decrease and acceleration can be affected also

6) Dunno

But also with bigger wheels, the speedometer says ur going slower than u r right?

SO bigger wheels = better handling, more uncomfortable, less acceleration?

Most insurance companies dont allow any one below 19 to have mods, and considering you will of only just passed your test youll pay loads extra so basically go with Liverpool Victoria. Try joining the CSMA as this gives you a huge 30% discount.

To be honest mate id get a new car if you have a job, you can get a new Clio 1.216v (75bhp)with free insurance and the finance deal works out as under £200 a month.

Good luck

When you upsize the wheels you have to compensate on the tyre profile to keep near enough the same rolling diameter, then your speedo wont be out by much if anything.

To join the CSMA, either you, or a member of your immediate family, has to work for a civil service organisation.

As for wheels. I would suggest you go for 15s with 195/45 tyres as they give the best balance between looks, driveability and handling IMO. Personally I dont think 17s on a non 16v clio look right cos of the narrower front wings and rear quarters.
