New versus old. Continued.

It went off topic, like the moderator said.

Here is a chance to continue the conversation, about modern technology versus old character, or whatever fans of old cars think they do best.:D

okay fair enough, but the second people start throwing insults or anything related to insults then this is gone.

2005 Clio 190.

Think how much worse it will be than the current one, with more power and torque, uprated and better suspension and a more radical look, courtesy of styling mods. to bring it right up to date and competitive with the competition.

Sounds awful.;)

I think this should be banned TBH - after 10 pages on the last topic of people missing the point its unlikely to get resolved now....

Lets face it some people like having a decent quick and safe brand new car thats suppossed to be top of the pile while some of us like paying less than half of yours for a slightly older car, with more character that does the job just as good.

Big deal m8!

Well personally I am looking forward to seeing the new Clio, but I havent drove it or even seen it so I have no opinion as of yet, so I cant say whether or not it will be better.

what your missing is that these new models are the same as the previous in the case of the 172 and 182, like the valver is to the Willy (but even more similar). Updates of the existing model by 10hp is hardly grounbreaking is it? These newer models cannot be described (IMO) as being a better version of the Williams or Valver as they share no common similaraties, different types of car with flattering 0-60 figures due to not needing an extra gear change... but this must not help the 1/4 figures, but who cares, it sells cars. lol

is this restricted to clios only?

I have perfect comparison im 2004 182 and 1997 alfa 155 at the mo.

has more charachter its very much get in and play. comfortable fun driving.

Clio is harder to get to know and you feel less in touch with the road.

to say which is better is V hard but if the alfa had the 182s power i would say old is better

Well Id love an original Shelby Cobra (7ltr)..they are old cars now (60s) but still awesome.

Other than that prefer new cars.:D

My old (E reg) R5GTT was a great little car, but I am sure its replacement is better (182)??

Simon.

What Renault need to do is put some Williams badges on a 182. Old but new, all sorted.
But then, when some lad in a 1.2 Nova beats it down the twisties, theyll think theyve beaten a proper Williams.

:p Disclaimer: Its a joke? OK?!?!?! :D

Some of you can only afford half and i think thats why people get so defensive, because you paid half doesnt mean it has twice as much character..Im not pointing that at anyone in particular but lets face it if money was no object then 99% of us wouldnt even be on this forum. Some older cars like the willy can have lots of charm but thats it,charm and nostalgia can only take you so far........The williams has bucket loads of this and that along with the budget is what people hold on to.And lets not forget they are not bullet proof. If there was a huge divide between the reliability of a willy to a 182/cup then the aurgument would be over.People will reply that they own a willy and nothing has gone wrong,i too can say my 02 172 has never broken once either,as i said before they are both cut from the same cloth...~~~ that went into the williams was resourced for the 172/cup and 182...They didnt just throw away the mold. The succes the williams had was astonishing when it came out and it re-wrote the books as we have ~~~ read but now they are saying the same with the 182...Phill bennett holds the nurbergring record for a production car and knows his stuff, hes been racing for years now and says the 182 is the finest FWD car he has ever driven...That must mean something.......Just because weve spent more money than you doesnt mean weve got more to proove...Its just that things do move on...The clio williams tested in evo 2 yrs ago had 25k on the clock so when the 172 outbraked it and pulled more G in a corner i think this was a fair example of two evenly matched cars with similar miles.....

Both great cars but progress is progress however much anything costs or however new cars are......The williams is still great though

Regards,ian

ok thats fair enough, but the point i was trying to make was over that fact certain ppl thought that becuase a peice of paper says ur car is slightly faster then a willaims/16v makes it a better car, i have no problems with the 172/182 at all i do like them, after all im a clio owner lol !

having a good car is more then just it being faster in a straight line, theres all sorts of aspects, handling, build, reliability, value for money, cost of running etc etc, i just dont like the fact that ppl say my cars best because it does 0-60 in XXseconds, and is faster then urs

we all buy which ever model for a reason wether like me i got a williams due to the fact ive always wanted once since they came out, it cost me less to buy then a 172, and well i wanted one lol, i can afford a 172 or 182 if i wanted, was looking at them

rich

To be honest.. and this is only my opinion, so dont jump on me.. heh.

If I had the choice of two cars, 182 or Williams.. and I could afford either, Id have a 182.

The bloke at my local garage insists on calling my 172 a Williams!!

I would love to have a Williams and keep it in mint condition and still keep my 172 as a day to day car.....but cant afford a mint Williams!

me and richy have been havin this coversation for a couple of days now, specially after the original post got banned, and imho it doesnt matter whether or not u have a 172/cup/182/willy/valver as long as u like the car! i love my 172 for the vvt, and the seats and all the other gadgets, but i can c the point behind the argument for the willy etc, and richy is the same, he loves his williams(i was gonna say willy, but came to my senses), and he can c the point behind my argument, and most of the time a good river in any of the above could beat a bad driver etc etc, like say schumacer in a valver, against bruni in a 172, no contest

Not really, given the choice Id have a Williams every time. Id even have a normal 16v over a new Clio. Im not a fan of many new cars, the Clio is disgusting and next years model (if it looks like the pictures) is an abomination! 205, Mk1 Clio, Mk3 Escort, now those are nice looking cars! In my opinion of course ;)

But then I really like the new MGs, the Fiesta before the latest one on the Focus.

Not everyone wants a new car!

As i stand at the moment i will always buy the most fast/insurable car i can. I live at home with my parents and pay basically f*ck all towards our house. So everytime i save up i will get somthing faster. I dont mean in a straight line as it isnt a big thing for me. Some varied differences in opinion i here about buying cars wot you can afford ect but i would not buy a new megane bcus it is faster than my cup bcus i think there sh*t yet other people may love them. As someone who was more important than me once said "you cant argue taste" and you know that what car people choose is down to there taste. My taste is for speed and excitment. Its hard to compare old with new so its down to opinion only.

Can renault simply increase the hp and uprate suspension though? The suspension on my cup is a stiff as a board, i understand its even stiffer on a 182 and if it was to be even stiffer on the 192 then surely the ride would be too crashy.

im sure i read on this forum that there will be no new renault sport released next year and the new model will be released in 2006, im sure someone will correct me if im wrong, so all this 192 talk is total bolloxs and pure guesswork.

also has anyone noticed how very very simulor Clio V6 2004 and 182 sport posting styles are wording, use of words etc.. not 1 person using 2 accounts is it ;)
