Newbie needs convincing and has questions

Hello all at clio sport, great website.

Not got a clio sport yet but am looking, need to get something different from my current car, something a bit fun, bit more economical ect, and thought the clio might do it. Bit worried I might be a bit let down after my fiat 20V turbo, but I’m hoping you lot will convince me otherwise….what do you think?????

I like the mk 1 172’s, I think its because them seem more aggressive.

I do have two questions as well,

1) what’s the ¼ mile time on a 172?

2) I saw an import with the door strip in silver, looked a lot better, where is this stip from? Can I get it from Renault if I get a UK 172?

Sorry if there lame questions, thanks for the help.

Welcome to the site mate! All ill say is i have a 182 and its the most fun i have ever had out of a car, i can honestly say that i dont like getting out of it.....so so much fun!

However, i am of course biased but there are a few peeps on here that arent so they will give you a well balanced view ;)

Not sure how different the mk1 172 is from the 182 but im sure its equally as fun?!

Theres a chap on here called smokey he had a v nice mk1 172....plenty of others as well.

Hello,

1) Most run about 15secs.
2) I’m not sure about this it may be aftermarket colour coding which really wouldn’t be that hard to do.

Hope this helps

phil,

the 172 wont be a touch on your 20VT. the torque difference will be noticeable, and the missing turbo will have a different feel.

the clio will be a downgrade in speed and acceleration, but a great improvement in handling and general ease of driving.

idadvise driving one first, the 20VT has a tremendous amount of pulling power at high speeds in virtually any gear, which again the clio will lack and will require more accurate gear selection.

i think you would enjoy the 172, but may lust after the supercar performance that the coupe gave.

Cut that out youll scare him off. Plus Im hunting for some commission.;)

Neil, if a standard Mk2 can run high to mid 14s, then the superior Mk1 can make mid 14s with a decent driver. After all, its practically the same as the Cup. LOL

Little BUMP…

Cool, good reply’s, think I might just have to go for one. Still trying to decide no the mark 1 or 2, as the girlfriend likes the 2 more, but I don’t.

Think the performance will be good, don’t seem that much difference between a 172 and my 20vt if the clio ¼ mile time is really near the 14.5/15 sec mark. The 20vt is 14.6

Chears,

  Fiat Coupe 20v turbo

Fastest mk1 172 I know of is Kevs old one which did a mailto:14.6@94mph">14.6@94mph 1/4 mile with no rear seats and no spare.

Hi Phil, youll get a completely different drive from the 172, being used to turbo lag and then jumping into the clio its so eager to pull.

Youll find in a straight line of course the 20v t will pull away but the handling round corners isnt to great so a 172 will have the upper hand.

Ive driven the 20v t and it feels totaly different, you can certainly tell its a properly designed bespoke car, in that respect the 172 is an extremely well (IMO) up rated normal car and its got all the bonuses that go with it (fuel economy cheaper servicing, it doesnt drink oil, etc).

if your on ffcuk id have a word with civic_legend he knows his peas and hes driven my 172 a couple of times so worthy of alternative opinion.

sorry to go on I think thats it.

thanks robd, think everything you said sound right. you know the 20vt drinks oil, likes its the fuel or something, joke really.

anyone want to buy a fiat coupe 20VT then!!!!!
