Newbie West Midlands trying to save a 172 phase 1

Hi, Just brought a really nice phase 1 172 that needs abit of work to bring it back to perfect.
First impressions - very engaging drive !, quicker than i expected, flimsy but light ! very economical.
However does abybody know of any Renault breakers in the West Midlands area as i need a Windscreen ?
There must be plenty of knackered 172's with good screens going to waste !
Also any suggestions for CHEAP independant garages who could check over the car /clutch / investigate the odd noise, basic service etc.
I've read all the praise of Fred in B'ham but i'm trying to save a 172 on a tight budget - thought somebody must use a cheap relatively unknown place nearer to Cannock / Wolverhampton / Walsall area ?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the club. As said, Fred is a legend with the 172 engines (sussed out a 182 with a 172 engine put in there...how many people would know that?)

Windscreens...not sure where you can get them locally (apart from Four Ashes Renault which is on the A449 between M54 J2 and Gailey island) http://www.fourashesrenault.co.uk/

For parts, I would also try T21ADS on here (http://www.renaultcarparts.com/) he does new stuff, but he will beat anyone's price and is based over in Wolves...so not a million miles away.

Any questions, get it put up in the relevant part of forum (Technical) and you will find at least one person has had similar issue or knows the answer.

I would spend the £12 for membership as it gives you access to the guides section which can sometimes save you a fortune.

No worries at all. There is also Renparts on here (who are in Doncaster), I used them to get a used alternator when mine packed up...and they do CS discount too.

I will be coming along to Midlands meets but can't make next weeks Karting as i also have a Ford RS Cosworth and already have plans to be at Santa Pod on Sunday for the RSOC show. Hope the weather improves !!
