Newbie, with DCi tuning Question...

  Renault Clio 1.5 DCi 100
Hello, I have just got a 2002 Dci Clio. It's done 94,000 Miles though! What tuning goodies can i get for it? Can it be "chipped"?

Exhausts sound poo on the diesel so I think i'll steer clear of them!

Cheers!

Yeah the chip is usually around £300 mark. Depends which DCi engine you have to what bhp you get as an end result

PM pmurray on here. He does a remap for the DCI. Not sure on figures but I think it adds between 20 and 30 bhp, may be wrong though.

Yep you can chip or tunning box them but personally I wouldn't bothere for the gains. A supercip remap gives about 88hp but they give you a warently which for me means a lot.
Dependsing which engine you have (I'll assume its the 65) you can get upto about 85hp from a tunning boxes and a few more with a remap any more than about 88hp from a remap without any other big modifiications I'd stay clear off 90hp will mean your running big injection windows or huge pressures and when the injectros are £250 or so each and replacing one costs about £450 an a new turbos £500 a new engine list price is £3k I'd be wary.
94k though thats not bad i thought mine ha a few miles on it (54k).
I'd change the oil ever 9k though it does make a difference even unmodified cars.

I already have a duplex backbox on my dci - it looks the part but not much of a note off it being a diesel car...
so I'm thinking of getting an induction kit added and maybe get something done to the exhaust in the future.

For engine mods I was reccomended to get a Dragon tunning box;
picked one up from Dragon Performance ebay-shop on Christmas eve for £140 :)

A great Christmas gift or what? even though I'm paying for it :clown:

Check it out - www.mrhoot.com
Selling at £300 from their website - but are continuously relisted (starting @ £0.99) on their ebay shop all the time!

What air filters are available for the dci ?

Which will give - better sound ?
any performance ?

There'll be less power loss with the panel than the IK then.

Would it loose much power with the 57i induction kit ?

There all about the same realy the stock setups very good realy the same design is used on the whole range upto the 105 hp model. IK or custom intake is needed if your going to push over 120hp or your despirate. The 57 kit is probably just a rempacment panel filter? If so its better but no gains worthwhile.

Unlike with a petrol where cold air = more power its not as important a cold air feed won't get more power as the ecu is closed loop and runs variable air fuel ratios. The only gains are if you running serious custom mapping where you can use the extra cold air to keep the intake temps down so run more boost without blowing things up.
I've been thinkign there might be more power aviliable out of the engine if you fiddle the temp sensors to think the cars not running enough boost but you'd probably end up blowing the turbo when your asking massive boost.
Keep changing the oil even as often as ever 6k will help power plus chnaging the gearbox oil will make a bit more power.

I've heard good reports about the KN panel filter for the dci

I was after a bit more of a growl with the revs - nothing mad, so thought of getting the KN 57i (induction kit)
I already have a Dragon tuning box comming for it soon

Will the induction kit loose any of the power that's there already? ie go lower than 80bhp

Am I right thinking the 57i might not loose any power at all? :)

You shouldn't loose any power but a panel filter maybe with some cleaning up and removal of excess plastic in the normal intake filter would make for the biggest gains of free flowing but it won't give any extra power.
A diesel won't loose power unless the exhaust is a bit smoky which indicates that the mixture is to rich/ not enough air getting to the engine bt then again any smoke should be detected by the EGR and the engine will redce power to stop the smoke forming.

I've just put a K&N in mine - brilliant!

no obvious power gain, but breathes so much better

used to be wheezy from 4200, but will genuinely rev to 4750 now!
