newbie with loads of questions

  182
So hi everybody i just bought a second hand 182 with absolutely no service history but only 49k on clock for a small cost, its got problems but I have no knowledge of clio182, I've gotta work out what's to be done as I want the car to be my new (hopefully not too expensive) project, so I have a few questions to ask,,,,,,,,

First where can I get manuals and info I would normally have when getting car as it came with nothing but v5,

What lights should go off before turning key full and starting, at the moment stop and handbrake, stay on untill engine starts. Is this normal?

Serv and airbag lights intermittent on, and Amber engine management has just started coming on when driving,

Droneing or intermittent humming sound from front (guess it's wheel bearing)

Sounds a little diselish when at low revs stationary (belts I guess)

Lastly as it got oz wheels the brakes and hubs look really rusty, I wonder if I should replace for New ones?

The last most obvoius question is dose anyone know a good garage or specialist near me in south london croydon

ebay for owners manual. There isn't a haynes manual as such for the 2.0L RS models. Some people have success with the £10 PDF-on-a-CD "workshop manuals" on ebay. Otherwise individual sections of the official Renault workshop manual can be found on here (search) but never found them any use whatsoever besides torque settings.

Normal.

Wobble connectors under seat for airbag/serv light. Especially passenger seat.

Firstly, make sure it's definitely the engine management light. Sounds more like the Exhaust Emissions light. Unfortunately there are a few causes of this. Check it hasn't got a decat (sounds silly, but still...)

Wheel bearings aren't a bad first guess.

Knackered dephasers (the pulley on the end of the camshaft that manages the variable valve timing) sound very diesel like! Commonly occurs due to infrequent oil changes. Budget in the region of £600 for a proper belt change inc. dephaser from an independent RS specialist.

It's a 10 year old car? It's going to be corroded and pretty yuck underneath.

Not a Londoner, but think Mike Woodford ("MWM" on here) is in Staines. Very highly recommended on here.

Hopefully that gives you a starting point. Obviously you can do more searching/reading on dephasers/wheel bearings and look for MWM in the traders section.

TBH you may as well just get your chosen independent specialist to have a look over those points whilst it's having it's belts/dephaser done and potentially have the whole car sorted in a day.

On that note, belts are due every 5 years/72k miles WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. So it's due it's 2nd belt change this/next year anyway. Not to mention you've absolutely no proof of it being done ever and the consequences of the idler pulleys failing and the belt slipping is far in excess of the cost of doing the belts.

THanks for all you welcomes and help....

will look on ebay for manual is it the same manual for all clio's?

will try to wobble the connectors to fix serve light airbag lights this weekend

Its the exhaust emissions light that has just come on, The car has a unusual exhaust on it as its an exhaust the goes of to one side )more like a 172 rather than the normal 182 two exhausts in the middle, so could be a cause but its only just come on,

Finally does anybody know what wheels brakes and hubs i should look to replace as mine look rusty and as i mentioned they have a humming noise which i reckon is bearings

Lots of people mention rear bearings but I almost definally on front left can feel it slightl through steering wheel, could be brakes cause if I slightly rest foot on brake pedal it seems to stop noise, so now I'm thinking breaks, Jysr noticed my engine block is very rusty anyone had this problem
