Possibly a PH1 172 owner here. I have never owned a renault before and as an RAC guy I know that reliability ain't great. However I looking for a cheap fun trackcar to replace my over spent Nova track car. My current plan is to sell the nova parts off (Quaife SCCR box, Jenvey tbs, wilwoods, polycarbs, basically too much) and use around £3k to buy and improve (slightly) a clio and use it for trackdays.

Used to be with the AOC south east lot at the shows drinking and smoking with you! Getting rid of the nova now????

On a serious note though clio's are great for the fun factor. Have a few mods on mine now and its way more fun than the turbo 5 door I had. Do you still have the coupe too?


Don't know too much about modding a track clio but standard mods seem to be....

Strip
cage
buckets
4 pots or uprated discs and pads ( I have a brembo HC disc and Ferodo DS2500 pad setup for under £200)
Throttle bodies
Exhaust


But what am I saying you know all this stuff!!!! But a clio will be a lot younger than the nova so hopefully won't cost as much to maintain!

Hi guys, I now own a phase 1 172. Real impulse buy, decided at around 4 o clock I wanted one, so went on ebay and found a nice looking one near by. Need to fit new brakes on it so thinking of DS2500 front and rear with brembo discs.

Millen it is me How you been. Yeah Nova is prob gonna get broken mate, too much cash sitting in it. (Gearbox will sell for more than the clio costs) lol. Still got coupe, trying to rest it from trackdays now. Really needs a ATB fitted to control the 350lb/ft of torque. Done quite lot to it still as it has been my main car/track car.

350 lb/ft lol, clio won't compare for straight line speed then!! I miss the power of my astra, one day i'll end up with one again I think.

Glad to hear the coupe still being used/abused. But a shame about the nova, last I heard you were going for another rebuild? Only so far you can go with a car though i guess.

Good to speak again mate, any pics of the new purchase then? How do you find it to drive?

Pick it up tomorrow so i'll tell ya then lol.

Yeha the nova was going big spec... 250bhp straight cut box etc, had it all in there running. Few adjustments a day before mapping and a noise developed... turned out a bolt fell into one of the bodies...killing block/piston. Game over now.

You could have the clio turbo'd ))) Although the wheel spins would be a pain

Nice man, looks a fair condition. Loving the meaner look of the ph1 too.

Does look a bit 4x4 at the moment though on the 15s lol. How do you find it?

Ha those must be the original discs! Changed them already then?? You work fast!

yeah front and rears both done, ordered them before the car came lol. Found rear ABS sensor dead, so ordered that. Now to get cambelt etc.
